Colt Speed / Gruppe M Carbon Intake Installed
So we received our Colt Speed carbon intake for our project Evo X and wow, the quality is amazing!
The pics speak for themselves!
Installation pictures...
It comes with a heat shield / splash guard... the blue is a plastic sheet to protect the surface from scratching during install
with the intake adapter installed...
Here's the carbon radiator cooling plate and the ducting section of the intake. The duct actually faces front to actually scoop in the airflow and direct it toward the intake, unlike the stock duct which is reversed and doesn't force any air into the air box
And here's the complete system installed
Couple of extra teaser pics... the Colt Speed intake with the T1R prototype carbon engine cover
Note that the T1R engine cover is still a prototype, the final production version will be substantially different!
Driving impressions... the Colt Speed intake replaced an open cone filter with a velocity stack. The Colt Speed intake is definitely quieter, and has substantially better throttle response and better low end and mid range torque. Peak power feels the same, but we won't know for sure until we hit a dyno. The effect of the direct air ducting to the airbox is very noticeable, the engine pulls much better when the car is at any speed. Overall, it feels more driveable with more usable torque thus far.

For the average Joe ... $1500 is an intake, IC piping, and FMIC from another reputable shop like AMS.
I am not talking down on this Gruppe-M intake at all ... if I had $1500 I could throw at an intake without flinching that thing would be in a box on its way to my house from Japan as you read this.

Spending money on the good stuff is one thing ... but seriously $1500+ is a WHOLE LOTTA cash for an intake although the bling factor is through the roof for sure.
