New APEXi EVO X RS Cat Back

APEXi has a new catback out for the Evo X:

120mm dual tips sounds delectable. Too bad I couldn't find any exhaust note clips for this system. And at $1,299 ... it's definitely on the high side.

i love the mis-education on these forums thats every exhaust made needs to be 3in piping. for 95% of the evo community 2.5in piping will be more than adequate. especially a free flowing 2.5in exhaust.

I think i could make a killing on these forums if I produced a 3.5-4in exhaust and made it strait through with a resonator, everyone would crawl out of the wood work and buy it and say how well it does ignoring how poorly the power band is below 3k rpm. Oh well.

the apexi looks like a nice exhaust

yea the low end would be rough... a 5" exhaust should make up for that.

+1

Definitely quality over size.

And while we're at it, +1 for stealth. In California, police will pull you over for a sticker on your window let alone a loud huge exhaust. A single tip slant exit exhaust would be great for the track but 90% of Evo owners never see the track...

I find it so hard to believe that the majority of people think that size is everything HAHA didn't you hear its not the size its how you use it. (motion of the ocean if you will). Plus get it as big as you can, blow that back pressure and watch your torque

Your comparing an N1... which is there RACE exhaust to a street version?

The EVO X RS Twin Tip Exhaust, is QUIET.

It has a resonator and a nice sized muffler. We are running the prototype for SEMA and it is a really nice sound.

Now... as far as WOT, I have a Twinscroll GT3076 and w/ the 2 wastegate dump tubes, its friggin loud. but quiet at idle.

I'll get some vids up, but it won't be til after SEMA.

Thanks,

Chris

What happens if you want to upgrade to a bigger turbo? Nobody wants to by another exhaust when they made the first mistake of getting a restrictive system. Just buy once just in case.

This logic only applies to naturally aspirated engines. I suggest you do a search.

Back pressure is the enemy of a turbo engine and will reduce power and torque. Ideally you don't want an exhaust system at all, but that's too damn loud and illegal. So at best you want an exhaust big enough and or short enough to almost equate to not having an exhaust according to the ultimate power output of a given turbo. With turbo cars bigger is better, but after a while you reach a point of very little returns of power and torque. That point depends on how large the turbo is and your horsepower goal.

Any sort of restriction is bad, be it length, diameter, and the amount of bends in the exhaust system with turbo cars.

I too am looking for a catback system. I've seen and heard alot of them thru online videos, but i'm not sure if i can trust what i hear. I had my mind made up on a Tubro XS until someone told me, by experience that it rattled and was poorly made, which would explain the price. I can't do a single; not even if it could make the car fly; it jus don't look right. i've narrowed it down to GReddy Spectrum Elite and Apexi RS Evolution based on sound and looks, with the GReddy at a slight lead. The negative is that it only comes in 70mm(2.75") which would restrict "Veronica X" if she was to get a boost job, which i've heard requires 75mm(3") if you really wanna get the most potential. This is where the 3" Apexi closes the gap. What do you think?
