Exclamation Car wont go into 5th! Help!

I was driving down the freeway yesterday {accelerated quick through the gears} but when i went to shift it into 5th it wouldnt go in. It was like there was a wall there. Wouldnt grind or even start to go in. I pulled over and let it cool down and i took off as slowly as possible when i got to 5th it went in. I hit a stop light and tried to get it into 5th and nope. No luck. Finished the drive home at 60mph. Got in the car this morning and went to slide it into 5th and nope, nothing. Is my transmission f*cked? Or could this just be the clutch. It has been on its way out lately. I have a stage 4 clutchmasters coming. You think that will solve the problem?

It sounds like driver error. You hit the the shift "wall". My car doesn't like to go into every gear when its stationary as well. If it goes in while you are driving normally, its probably fine. If something is broke, it is the shift fork like the above poster mentions.

It could be the synchros, if you havent swaped the clutch with an aftermarket it will probably go in by warranty

I would go for warranty anyways and then while they have the transmission out they can throw in your clutch for little to no charge. Worth a shot.

Put it back to stock before you go to Mitsu.

Car is now at the dealer. I asked them if they could install the clutch but they said they arent allowed to install aftermarket parts. They could let me "borrow it for a day" and then just return it with an aftermarket clutch. Then i dont have to pay someone to pull and reinstall the tranny. Saves me some moneys.

^Interesting, considering that your car doesn't have a 6th gear.
