Need help! No reverse!

ok i bought my car ( 2008 evoX gsr ) wrecked.. nothing was wrong wid the tranny cuz we inspected it and it was good.. well we cant get the car to go into reverse.. i mean it doesnt even wanna go into reverse.. does anyone have any ideas wat could be wrong??

is there a possibilty that when the car got in a wreck they towed the car and didnt put it on a flatbead??? would that cause the problem? but y would it do it to the reverse only??

im going to drain the fluid and replace it tomorrow.. any ideas??

**PLEASE NO POSTS THAT SAY "thats what u get for buying a wrecked car" OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.. JUS POSTS THAT COULD HELP ME OUT! THANK YOU!

There is no reverse gear, just a shifter trick that engages 1st and 3rd gear at the same time on X's with a 5 speed. Maybe the shift cable is jacked somehow.

did you try putting it in first and rolling forward an inch or two then going for reverse? if you cant move it shift it into first, then into third then try reverse. sometimes that does the trick.

if that fails, move on to the shifter cables as stated above, what type of damage caused the total?

Did you try rolling it forward first, as someone else mentioned? Mine will often be locked out of reverse until I do that.

I have heard of someone bending a shifter fork during a crash, but do cable shift mechanisms even use those? I haven't had reason to mess with the transmission yet (*crosses fingers*).

Forks are inside the trans, cables out side and yes you have both.

have you tried putting it in reverse with the engine not running

this would eliminate the cable

but i would guess that your going to find that you have a bent shift fork or bad synchros in the trans

the only other thing i can tell you to try is to unhook the cable from the shift linkage on the trans and try to manually put the trans in reverse if you still cant get it into reverse then you know 100% for sure its an internal trans problem prob a bent shift fork for the synchros would most likely cause a prob with the engine running and not so much with the engine not running

my guess would be that youll find a bent shift fork
