What is this part? (AMS Intercooler Install)

I'm in the process of installing my AMS IC and there's this rectangular solid piece of metal that was blocking where the left Intercooler bolt goes up though, so I took it off. Can someone tell me what it's for, do I need to re-install it somehow or can I just leave it off? It looks like it serves no purpose other than adding a good 3 lbs of weight.

Here's said part:

behind lower left side of IC:

It's a damping weight (about 3.6 Lbs, iirc). Remove it, attach the four bolts, place in plastic ziplock bag and store for that time in the far, far future when you want to return the car to all stock.

Yeah, when I installed my ams fmic I was like man wth is this 3lb worthless bracket. I did exactly what one of the above posters said about bagging it up and keeping it in storage.

That is a harmonic damper ..

There's a few reasons for it ..
Most probable reason we could come up with was there's probably a low frequency resonance that in time MAY cause either the IC / Radiator / Aircon condenser to crack ..

The other is just probably annoying vibration / noise

We're testing 1 car with and 1 car without .. but probably won't see any real effects for another year or 2

oh ok, i stand corrected thanks gunzo. So, everyone who runs a AMS fmic has this removed.

Ams, is there any long term issues from removing this item?

I also wonder if any other fmic companies retain this item with their respective installs like ETS,Perrin,Buschur etc

I guess it could always be put back using some longer bolts and washers to shim past the IC bolt.

So I just got done installing my AMS FMIC and man it looks great. I can't feel too much of a difference, but who is going to feel ~15whp anyways?

I had a bad boost leak from the FMIC to the UICP where you reuse the factory coupler and it took about an hour to get that fixed without taking off the front bumper cover all over again. I tightened it all up and I did some WOT runs just to get the peak boost and no more leaks.

Anyone else have that issue? Other than that the install was pretty straight forward.

I installed my AGP IC yesterday and was wondering the same thing. As soon as I read your post topic I immediately knew the part you were talking about.
