If I remove my HFC... how much louder?

This is what my exhaust setup looks like on my X...
I have an Apexi RS Catback and a Perrin DP w/HFC.
This is the Perrin Part... http://www.perrinperformance.com/pro...ory=6&model=26
That setup is not that loud. With that said... I know I will get better gains if I remove the HFC from that DP... my concern is that I have NO idea how much louder, if any, I will get. I don't really care to be crazy loud, cops around SD suck. But if it will only increase it a little, I wouldn't mind that. Any ideas?

The sounds is going to be noticeably louder throughout the RPM range. There are a bunch of guys on here who have swapped their DP for a HFC and were very happy with how much quieter the FHC was.

Also, there are many posts in this forum regarding how much HP/TQ you are leaving on the table by going with a HFC. It's not much (usually around 10whp/tq or less).

Considering you have cops in your area that will pull you for a loud exhaust, you're best bet is probably to stay with the HFC. IMHO, the DP won't gain you enough power to make it worth it.

I know this is a little off topic and noob but...

Does that Perrin DP/HFC bolt to the stock location? I was thinking about going that route but with a different catback but didn't know if it was routed differently or had fitment issues with other aftermarket cat backs.

The difference in mine from a HFC to a Test pipe was not necessarily louder but it resonated more inside the car. Meaning I felt like there was more pressure inside the car. Difficult to explain, but the exhaust is more noticible, but I don't think it is any louder. Others complain about the droning at cruising speeds. Be careful out there in Cali, I heard all kinds of nasty stuff if they catch you without a cat--impound and rediculous fines--I'm with adambl03, it's not worth it.

I may be moving to cali next year, and I plan to buy a HFC before I leave here.

If you're in Cali, it's like a $2k fine if you're caught without cats, right? Not worth the 10hp.

like geezevox said, the main difference between the tp and hfc is the "pressure" in the cabin. It hurts your ears more and makes it harder to hear people in the back seat.

I would really like to see a source for that 2k fine...I know it's high and all...but how would a cop know? Even if the cop said it's not a cat, how could that possibly hold up in court? All you would have to do is put a cat back on, bring it to an emissions expert, get a piece of paper signed off saying that it has a cat...bring it to court and you're good to go. I guess the only thing I can see here being a problem is if the guy impounded it...and I don't hear about those stories too often. I've been trying to research people who have actually gone through high fines for no cats and I can't find anything...does anyone have a link to an actual occurrence?

I agree, just put your stock **** back on... but heres what I found from someone else on another forum talking about this topic....

California Highway Patrol Can Now Use Plainly Audible Standard for Exhaust Noise Enforcement

New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. The citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed. CHP - Street Legal

Riverside County Passes Strong Noise Code

Riverside County California had such a problem with loud parties, that the county supervisors enacted a noise ordinance that can fine noise offenders up to $1,800. According to a resident activist who helped get the ordinance passed, it was not uncommon for people to put event speakers in their yards and blast noise at all hours of the day and night. These parties could be heard over a mile away. The ordinance, passed in 2006 prohibits any live band or amplified device from being heard by the human ear at a distance no more than 200 feet. Violation of the ordinance is a $500 fine. However, the State of California also adds an additional fine, plus court costs. The total can add up to 1,800. A second summons in 6 months comes up to $2,700. the third is a misdemeanor with a $3,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail.

I'm pretty sure it's more than just Riverside County too...my friend got a ticket for the noise violation when throwing a party in Huntington Beach. I'll probably end up selling my "Quiet" Buschur Catback Exhaust and get one of the quieter ones and then I won't have to worry about this crap. I hate how Buschur put "Quiet" on the title of the thing...sooooooo misleading

I have an Ultimate Racing test pipe and Buschur dual CBE. Really freakin' loud. You can really feel the exhaust vibration under your *** when your gunning it. Just from the test pipe.
