I'm just messing around.
Now that I know this isn't a mis-post, the only downpipes that could potentially
cause a CEL are those like the Perrin downpipe that replaces the stock Cat. with
an HFC. HFCs and testpipes change the flow the rear O2 sensor sees, which to
the ECM means the Cat. isn't functioning properly, triggering a CEL.
And make sure whatever downpipe you go with replaces the turbo exhaust outlet
fitting (e.g. AMS, ETS, Ultimate, T1R.) The exhaust outlet fitting is 22 in the
first diagram and is also referred to as the O2 housing on the boards, although it
doesn't house an O2 sensor as it did on the Evo 8/9. Replacing just the
downpipe (9 in the second diagram) has been shown to yield literally zero
gains in power with the stock piece already being 2.75" and mandrel bent.
Upstream of the Cat., the exhaust outlet is the restriction. The only other
worthwhile alternative would be something like the Perrin mentioned above, but
only because it replaces both the downpipe and Cat. with an HFC.
This is the Perrin, essentially a long HFC:
