Phantom shutting down 08 MR(help)

I am having a shut down issue with my Evo X MR 08. My Evo has done this about 4 times in the past 6 months since I owned the vehicle(stock exhaust).

Once in a blue moon, when I start the car the rpms will go around 400-600 stay there for about 20 secs or so then the car will shut down. When I am like wtf and restart the car everything is fine..

I took the vehicle in to find out what is happening about a month ago. According to the local mits dealer my Evo was the 3rd one in for this problem. They said it was a easy fix (only had to update my stock map). Now a month later the same issue again, but this time I have a HFC and exhaust. And lord behold metal on metal sounds coming out from my tail pipes when it happens. !!!

I am taking the car back to the dealer to find out what is happening. What I was wondering is if someone here has an idea what is happening or had this experience too.

Update: I called the dealer they won't see my car until Monday.

I don't understand what is happening because there is no service soon or anything when this happens. I should have stay with my 03 VIII! I just hope the dealer doesn't see any evidence of my cobb tuning once I uninstall it.
(this is a repost couldn't figure out how to move my post)

can you list out the number of mods you have? Only HFC and catback?

Once you uninstall your Cobb map and Accessport they won't know. It would be a great idea to retun the exhaust to stock, as you never know what the problem may be. The rattling from the exhaust is most likely caused from the vibrations of the low idling and shouldn't be of concern.

You think I should return the exhaust to stock? I had this problem before I started upgrading the vehicle.

I personally think it is crazy that I don't get any code when this is happening. I believe that my problem is in fuel system or program because the car stays on almost stalling and then shuts down after 10-20 secs.

Absolutely return it to stock. Dealerships start to get ancy to void your warranty when you do anything to the cat.

Make sure all the fittings are tight on the upgraded parts in your engine bay. I had this happen to me before in stock form, I brought it back to the dealership and they said it might be that my BOV fitting was loose (since I didn't clamp it down), therefore there aren't enough back pressure in the system to start...Another time that the RPM was wacked when I started up the car was in winter...so I assume the evo doesn't like the cold. Anyways good luck.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to mess with the sensor again. The material it is made from is cheap. I was very careful loosing it the first time and still the threads almost got mess-up. Thankfully I was able to save it. I got to do what I got to do to stay with the warranty I guess.
