misfire? not too sure

Here's the deal, recently i have been getting what i think is a misfire.

It has happened in both 3rd and 4th gears. ( not at the same time though).

I was in 2nd, went wot, shifted into 3rd then halfway through 3rd huge power cut, car jerks, and a crap load of black smoke shot out the back. Car then picked right back up and pulled hard till redline. This is the 3rd or 4th time it has happened, just its been more frequent and am wondering if something is wrong.

The weather has been pretty cold so maybe that has something to do with it.

Only mods are HKS drop-in, cat delete and cbe. Didnt get any factory reflashes or anything.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

The cold weather combined with freeing up the motor seems to be causing overboosting for a lot of people. I'd get a tune.

Although I have an VIII, I am having the same issues. I'm having a hard time detecting whether it's a misfire or knock (I'm hoping it's a misfire). I've been told that a good MBC should help prevent overboosting; I've noticed mine is doing this as well due to the colder weather.

It wouldn't hurt to pull your plugs and take a look at them. The issue could definitely be overboosting as well.
