BR EVOX T3/GT35r/header thread

So today we finally began on the header kit for the EVOX. What appears to be a ton of space shinks very quickly when you jam a turbo and downpipe into that space and then try to get runners to the header!

We figured out where we want to place the turbo and got it mocked up this morning. Now the process of laying out the runners starts. I'm going to take pictures and post them as we go on this. These headers will be built 100% here in house. I've worked very closely with Ron Shearer on the DSM/EVO8 and 9 headers and he will continue to supply us with all of those, quality has been absolutely top notch. No falling out there at all before someone asks or implies it. These will be built here to keep our guys busier is all.

Without further delay, here is the first runner finished for the header:

#2 is is being welded up now and then it goes back in the car to get the #4 runner fit, which is the tightest and most difficult.

The kit will use the Garret GT housing only, it will use the 3" vband outlet, it is the best turbine housing currently built for a single scroll T3 application and based on the testing and what we've learned we have no desire to offer something that is second best or do this project twice.

The kit will use a full 3" downpipe that runs to the location of the factory cat.

Upper i/c pipe will be 2.5". We will be using a 3" inlet to the turbo, we want to retain the factory MAF and housing as we have done since the beginning. This could change in the weeks to come based on what we find on the dyno.

2nd runner finished and we put the header into the engine bay, bolted the header up and figured out the i/c pipe. The fitment can't be much better and has allowed us to use our standard upper i/c pipe, all we have to do is include a 90 degree bend to get from the Blouch GT600R turbo to the existing upper i/c pipe.

The #1 and #4 cylinder runner are being final welded as I type this. I will stay late tonight to clean up the ports for pictures in the morning. Tomorrow we will fit the 44mm Tial gate, build the turbo inlet, 3" downpipe and hook up the water and oil lines. Tomorrow should go pretty quickly.

Thank you.

The header is done now, I've got it in the car with the turbo on, i/c pipe on too.

Tomorrow we'll finish the wastegate, turbo inlet, dump tube and oil lines. I hope to start it up tomorrow with the new engine/head turbo kit.

Lucky you're doing this now, and not post-my-turbo-upgrade. Otherwise I'd be sad.

Choice is good.

Damn this EvoX project is really moving along quickly, I'm impressed!

Doesn't brake fluid get hot enough as-is? Do you think having the turbine so close to the lines will necessitate heat shields or a blanket for the turbine housing?

I know David sells the DEI turbo blanket that works excellent, I'm sure they will be offering that as an option. With the turbo blanket, I don't see any issues with heat on the lines.
