ARP head stud install question

searched the Evo X forum for help on this topic but could not find any.

I just bought some ARP headstuds for my EvoX and was going to install them with the engine in the car but was curious after i read the instructions if the headstuds actually protrude into any of the waterjackets.

Step #3 on ARP's insructions
If the cylinder head studs protrude into a water jacket, lubricate the block threads of the stude with ARP thread sealer.

It does look like the front cam cap will need to be removed to get the front two head bolts removed with a long T55 torx bit.

any help is appreciated!

Why are you replacing head studs?

I would be more concerned with Rod bolts...

I wouldn't replace the OEM bolts unless the head is coming off the car. The OEM bolts will handle anything you are throwing at it with that little turbo.

Not any harder than any other head bolts. It's just GETTING to them that's the painful part. I mean, you have to tear pretty far into the motor to replace them.

You need LONG T55. You also may need to shave down a 13mm 12 point 3/8th socket to tighten. I took scrap one and shaved it down. It is VERY tight.

My buddy and I tried installing APR head studs tonight on my X and we couldnt even get the stock head stud out. My buddy has done them on his XI. We could not get the first head stud past the cam. When we had loosed the head stud and started to pull it out there was a washer at the middle to the bottom of the stud. Does the cams have to be taken out on the X? Any help would be appreciated.

If you are taking off the head then go for the studs. I actually have a set with 1000 miles on them if you want them. the stock head bolts should not be re-used. Otherwise there is really no reason to upgrade them unless you have a built motor. The stock rods will give before the head bolts. Like mentioned above, you need a t55 deep torx and need to grind down a socket to get the two studs near the front side of the motor. I slightly ground down a Snapon 1/4 drive socket and got it no problem.
