After Market intake harm the engine?
ok so im pretty new with modding cars so please just help me out.
i just bought a 2008 evo x used and the guy i bought it from had it tuned and put a custom intake on it. i wanted to tune it back to factory settings so the waranty wasnt voided and he said i couldnt keep the intake on because the air/fuel ratio would be off. is this true? would it be so far off that i couldnt have a custom intake with the factory settings?
wouldnt the 02 sensor pick up more air coming in and change the air/fuel ratio?
thank

He is actually correct, I installed an after market intake and it definitely messed up the stock tune. The AFR was not expected by the ECU based on what the MAF was getting.
As a result my car was trying to protect against all this extra boost, and it would cut it out completely... and then boost hard... and then cut out again. Not very fun.
Furthermore, the tune is the least of your worries when talking about voiding the warranty. That can be reflashed before you make it to the dealer no problem.
I'd remove the intake AND reflash if you're worried about the warranty.
The tune is there to help you, not hurt you

ohok thanks, do you know of any programs i can use myself to basically save ECU flash settings so i could swap it myself? im not really looking to get it flashed for 500 bucks and then have to pay it again to go to factory settings, and also, can you go from a flash to stock settings and visa versa more than once?

"Stock" settings are not specific to your car. So getting it flashed back is no problem at all.
As for being able to ping pong on maps, that should be fine. My tuner says I can bring it in anytime to go back to toggle between stock and custom. OR... you can get the access port to do that yourself once your tune has been made.
