By bore out .5 i meant for 86.5 pistons. From my understanding, even with a hone of the stock block, on a mid-high mile engine, a new 86mm piston will not fit with the clearances to spec. At least not every time. Hence going slightly bigger and boring out a bit. But I may also be wrong, this is just from what one shop has told me. Hell, I hope I'm wrong so I can just drop in rods/pistons w/o removing the block from the car.

That is the theory, typically on a newer engine you will have no problem dropping in stock sized pistons. However, when you get to the probably 10k marker and above and get some abuse on there it becomes a crapshoot.

Buschur suggested to me that you're good up to 10k miles, as Dave mentioned. I did mine at 6k and I was pretty easy on the car during those miles (commuting and slowly modding).
