Bad Timing Chain Tensioner

My 08 GSR had a bad timing chain tensioner which lead to engine damage......MITSU agreed to warranty all the damage and repairs which is a good thing
What i want to know is what could of caused the tensioner to go bad??????
Thanks in advance

Just a defect...happens!

At least Mitsu is doing the right thing. For all those that say Mitsu doesn't honor their warranty, take heed.

Out of curiosity, was the car totally stock, or was it modified in any way?

There was another post just a few days ago where someone had a stretched timing chain, and I know I've seen this pop up periodically over the past few months. I wonder if there's something to all this...

Took mine off when replaced head and nothing wierd about it. Seemed fine and reused. No issues at all.

Did you put it back to stock when you went to the dealership?

Nope I left it the way it was.
The dealership mod friendly..
The tech said any of my mod wouldnt of made the timing chain tensioner go bad.
There waiting on parts still but as far as i know they are putting a brand new head with a new internals in the head, timing chain, timing chain tensioner, and timing chain guides...........they may have to also do piston if they are damage but i guess they havent got that far yet with disassembling....so what ever
They said the X will be in there for aleast another week

no idea what made it go bad?

Does our tensioner use a spring or oil pressure to keep the chain tight?
