fp red= a lot of surge???
Hi guys. I installed my FP RED...with 800cc injectors and full bolt-ons no cams....a couple of weeks ago. got tune at IVEY 2 weeks ago.
380 WHP and 367WTQ.....on 91 octane(canadian).
the problem is.... there is supposed to be an ANTI-SURGE on that turbo...
fifth gear ..60mph...hard push.....bang bang bang....until I stopped pushing it.
almost all gear have some surge. the first gear start from 0....is freaking hard...dont go too low in rpms because hes going to die...
I THINK ITS SURGE...MAYBE NOT....thats why im asking.
so....is there a problem with something or its just normal???

Sounds like surging to me. Im not an expert but from what ive seen/experienced surging issues can be both tune related and turbo related. You may have a bit of both. Which RED are you running? The newer 80mm or the older 64mm one? I always heard that the older 64mm ones had a lot of surging issues.

It doesn't sound like surge to me. Surge is just a fluttering normally which is normal with the FP Red.
What you're experiencing sounds more like boost cut. Is it popping and cutting the throttle completely off and on?

The fluttering and the bucking seem to be just variations of compressor surge. Meaning the flutter is just light stuff that if your in a high enough gear you dont feel in the drivetrain. If your in lower gears for your speed you will feel the flutter when you let off as a bucking. At least thats how I experience it.

It sounds like what I had until I changed to a Coil On Plug ignition.
It gets more difficult for the stock ignition to fire the mixture as the boost gets higher.
Check out your coils to see if they are OK.

Arent these tuners supposed to know these things? I am sure when these cars leave the shop there is no surge on the dyno? I guess road driving and dyno driving are two different things more variables etc and driving style.

I don't know about surge or what causes it but if it is surging it is really bad for your turbo apparently...
Did you but the anti-surge for your Red?
Best bet is to make a video documenting the issue and post it up and you will get a better answer to your problem.
