2008 GSR 4th Gear Whine

Didn't get a response on another forum, any input would be awesome.

So I have been researching this over the last month or two and I haven't really found anyone with a similar problem. I have a whine that I only get in 4th gear, it's gotten worse over the last couple months and at first I assumed 4th gear was shot. (I've never miss shifted or grinded 4th gear) However after doing some research I have been told that a bad gear generally tends to continue to whine or even whine worse when you let off the gas. As soon as I release the gas pedal with the car still in 4th the whine stops. I don't think it's the transfer case for the above reason as well as there being no whine in 5th gear.

I have had one person tell me it's my throw out bearing but I don't understand why this would cause whining in only one gear. Maybe someone could enlighten me on that.

Thanks in advance for the help!

When the noise first started I was at 327/300 on a dynamics dynamometer. I was just recently tuned to 362/364 on a dynojet.

The noise hasn't gotten any louder since the last tune. It seemed to get louder as it got colder out.

Have you tried changing your tranny fluid? Based on what you said, I don't think it would matter, but hey you never know.

I actually have tranny, transfer and rear diff fluids in my garage. The main reason I even posted this before changing them is to see if anyone has heard of a throw out bearing causing something like this.

I'm tempted to change one at a time and see what happens. I'd hate to change all three at the same time and then the noise goes away and I have no idea which one it was.
