Hey all. I've been lurking, but now have a reason to post. I got a 2008 Evo last July. It's now thrown a couple engine codes, and I'm hoping y'all can confirm what I think is going on. I took it to the stealership yesterday, and here's what they had to say (I think I've captured all their typos correctly)

"Com: Customer states check engine light is on
Cau: Found codes P0016 crank/cam position phase and P0011 V.V.T. system
intake.has after market air coolier intake with air filter,after market
exhaust pipe from turbo to exhaust tail pipe with muffler,customer has
turbo boost guage with grady control unit,after market blow off
vavle,vehicle is running very rich,black smoke all over back of vehicle
Cor: Further diagnosis not covered by warranty due to extensive
modifications. Customer declined further diagnostic at this time."

Besides how PO'd I am about the warranty, I'm thinking this indicates the cams are out of time (how running rich affects that, I have no idea!). Stretched timing chain??

Anybody know a good mechanic in Austin, TX???
