Drag ? I am beyond curious about this final drive....I've contacted shep and he gave me the gearing specs based on the stock wheel/tire size and 8k rev limit on the evo x..but I am just curious if 500whp area on a FP black with cams would be good for the final drive in the 1/4mile...

Well if you look at the image that was just posted it shows the differences at each speed in 5th:

70 mph = 3300 vs 3000
80 mph = 3750 vs 3350

Since all gears are spaced the same, it leaves you at the same RPM you were at before, just the whole tranny is more overdriven. There is also an option to get a shorter 5th gear so that you don't drop down as far to 5200 after shifting 4th to 5th. Not really sure how much of a difference that 300 RPM will really make but who knows. Hopefully that doesn't make 5th rev higher than stock rpm's or highway driving would be a nightmare.

so you people are saying with a built motor that can rev to 9k plus theres no need for a final drive.

Everyone is a little different, so your end goals are what you need to consider. I have the taller final drive. If you're just looking for 500whp territory just rev the car(built motor) and ride out 4th in the quarter... That is if you want to have good times in e quarter. I don't launch my car but I would like for it to be capable if I took it to the strip once or twice(so my setup isn't ideal for drag). I really do enjoy the tall gearing just driving around town which is what I mainly do.

sooo , any ideas , for an evo x with fp black , cams , boltons and 500 hp would the final drive be useful?? since really the stock gearings are short?!
i dont think the car would fall out off power with each gear shift since the fpblack spools quick

for drag racing it seems you just want to build a your motor and just rev it out in each gear if you have a 2.3 then it seems the final drive is better for the car.

IMO, if the engine is not making that much power, to run a longer final gear is useless unless you run out of gear.
