ETS 5 inch intercooler

So on ETS website it says there 5 inch intercooler needs trimming. My question is what exactly needs to be trimmed?

One of my customers sent this over to me about the 5.0" intercooler trimming.

Oh so the crash beam needs to be cut? I could just remove the crash beam. Thanks Michael.

A friend of mine almost died in what was basically a normal accident in a 07 m35 twin turbo and it was mostly due to him not having a crash beam. I wouldn't risk it and if you ever do get in an accident and the insurance company notices the absence of a crash beam your pretty much f*cked

Well Mr. Move. no one is going to stop you from putting in a sick intercooler like that. but what kind of power are you pushing in your Evo X? Unless it's fairly high you will gain very little benefit out of doing 5 over a 4 inch.

this is purely from me wanting to look out for my fellow man. You should defnitely take into consideration the likelihood that your insurance company will deny ALL coverage when they inspect the vehicle. The crash bar is a part that is replaced after any moderate to heavy crash. it will be inspected to see if it needs replacing.

As mentioned, no one will say that it isn't sick. Please forgive my candor but it's slightly irresponsible to remove it off any vehicle that isn't purely track. anything that goes on the street should never have it's safety features this directly compromised.

Well I'm goingto put this intercooler on when I get my 6262 I shod be around 500 to the wheels and I will be building the block sometime after that. I will probably just cut the crash bar since I have the tools to do so. Thanks for looking out.

If you know someone that welds you can always have them fab you up a custom crash bar out of round tubing. Thats what Ryan Gates runs in his Time Attack Car.

I thought that crash bar was there to prevent expensive damage to the engine bay in the event of a low speed crash. Id be surprised if it did much of anything in a crash that could be considered life threatening. I could be wrong, though.

Regardless, just keep in mind that if you roll into another car at 10-15 mph you are going to destroy that IC without the crash bar.

Also note that you could possibly have your insurance claim denied if an inspection reveals that the bar is removed or modified. If you have a passenger hurt you could be facing something serious.
