The Perils Of Stiffer Exhaust Hanger Mounts
So while having my car up in the air to replace my brakes, I looked underneath the car to see that my passenger side body exhaust hanger was broke. I guess in an effort to save weight, Mitsu decided to make the hangers out of a hollow tube. Also the weld where the muffler is joined to the exhaust is cracking, possibly from the stress of a broken hanger and heat.
I attribute the breakage on the additional stress placed on the hanger to force it in line with the other mounts and the vibration the car has normally.
I will take a picture later today when I try to fix it. It's in a pretty cramped spot, since it is next to the AYD/AYC fluid pump underneath the trunk.
That is all.

Just as an FYI on the exhaust hook. My car was rear-ended, bending the hook and essentially destroying it.
The bodyshop commented that the hook (and the plate that covers it, which is spot-welded to the body) could not be ordered by itself, as an individual part. Instead they had to order the entire body panel that the hook is mounted on, and remove the new hook and mounting plate from the panel.
I think I remember seeing that the price on the estimate was around $250 for the panel with the hook on it.
