Launching on stock clutch @ drag strip

Is it recommended on a stock clutch?

The Evo will most likely get tuned this early spring...All AMS bolt-ons. So im guessing around 325/340AWHP - 330/340AWTQ.

Or should upgrade the clutch? Anything else recommended that needs upgrading to be launched on the drag strip. Its not gonna be a weekly occurrence. Just wanna take it there once or twice and see what it can do.

Depending on your skill, you might put a lot of wear on it. It's not going to explode on you or anything though. You're just shortening it's lifespan. If you're prepared to buy another clutch anyway, you might as well wear the stock one out first

I would let the car cool before each pass, stock clutch. I did 4 passes same night on a bone stock EVO and the clutch started slipping, so I would take it easy on the launches based on your bolt-ons.

Okay, thanks for the input

How you you recommend I launch it? Slipping in the clutch? or completely dropping the clutch?

I will be surprised if you get many passes on the stock clutch launching it. Twin Disc or Single w/ Upgraded master cylinder will be in your future for sure.

So, it can be launched on the stock clutch, but its DRAMATICALLY shortening it's life span...

All depends on your driver skill.

Some people get plenty of launches, others only get a few. It is all the driver.

Some people destroy the stock clutch in 10k miles, others last 70k with the same power.

Launching 101
Push clutch in, put in 1st gear, mash gas...will bounce off stock rev limiter at 5,500rpm
On green, quick slip clutch - do not drop

Do not do more than 2-3 passes per night, or you will overheat clutch. You should be able to get a few times at the drag strip like that. Or you might make it a full season and 20-30 passes. It all depends how quickly you tear it up. Just keep the passes to a minimum each time you go.

Last season I took my car to the drag strip twice. Each track day I launched the car 11 times. The only mod I had at that time was a ETS V2 Cat back. I'd say my car probably has about 25-30 launches on it. My recent mods are listed in my signature, and my clutch is still holding strong. Planning on throwing the ETS DP on, and turning the car in the next month or so. Will see how much power the stock clutch can handle

Good info!

However if you see Green = too slow. Your R/T is gone, depends on tree setup, but my local track I leave on last yellow, then by time you go = leaving on green for .XXX - .1 R/T range.

Good luck!
