SST rebuild in northeast? transmission failed at 73k

Posted this in ralliart forum but might get some good advice here. My 2011 ralliart sportback has a broken shift fork, 4th gear, at 73k miles. Out of warranty. Dealer said $15,500 to fix. Devastated. Cars only worth about 10k in a trade.

Any rebuild shops in the northeast that anyone can point me to? Would really appreciate it.

Thanks for weighing in. Ever use them? How much does a transmission even weigh?

Take it easy. SST rebuild is MUCH cheaper now as Jacks Transmission in Colorado only charge 2K for a rebuild (was like 5K+ IIRC).
SST weighs around 270lbs, and there was someone from Canada spent less than $300 shipped it to Jacks.
Contact SSP, Kozmic, Shep, or Jacks and see who is cheaper/more convenient for you.
I'd vote for Kozmic personally, it really seems to have the best know-how reading all their posts.

Kozmic said shipping is gonna run 300-400 and a rebuild would be 2,000+, maybe more if they need additional clutch stuff.

I've already put down 3,000 for a tranny with 22k mi. Total cost will be $4,500.

Getting it done next wk so should be back running by March. Can't wait to get rid of this car.

the price sounds fair. i wouldn't get rid of it after the tranny fixed. your new clutch would be much stronger.

No way. This thing is a serious money pit. Bought it used with 27k mi almost exactly 2 yrs ago. At 40k the AWD went, past warranty, that was 2,000 out of pocket. Because of the 17" rims I've had 3 flats and a bent rim. Cost me over 1,500 for those fixes/new tires. This latest after diagnosis, tranny flush and new tranny is 5,500. Until this august insurance was costing me 2,700 yr.

I own a condo, a house that I'm getting remodeled, and live in an apt. If you want to do things w your life, this is not the car for you. I can't f-ing stand it, I'm so fed up w it. The $$ I spent on this POS should be going to a new bathroom and kitchen, not to mention other things.

Happy to say I dumped this piece of garbage!! Spent 5,500 on new tranny. Felt good but I could tell rpms at 2,000 in 4th were fluttering. Didn't want to spend a few more hundred on this piece of crap. Sold car to a dealer for 10,800. That will be my deposit for a jeep renegade in a mth.

Thank god!!!! Good luck w your crappy Mitsubishi's guys!!
