The 18k will do about 400 on 91. It will also have much better response than the bolt-on GTX turbos, while not giving up that much power.
The shop you contacted must not know about the bolt on stuff Garrett offers for the X. Regardless, go with the 18k. If you want to approach 500 on pump gas with a X, you need a T3 setup, and a good turbo for that would be a Xona Rotor 78-64 or 71-64.

The MHI while a good little turbo it is not that big. 54 lbs/min turbo.

430 on 92 octane. It'll do 400 on 91 with a good tuner like the guys at English Racing.

Fair enough......though still feel a bit skeptical from all the other dyno I have seen.

I think 450-500 on pump, is Blouch 3.0XTR territory http://www.bptstore.com/Evolution-X-...TR-_p_146.html

OP, don't get caught up in someone else's dyno numbers. As posted above, sure an MHI 18k may make 400whp on 91 on a high reading dyno under great conditions, but unless you're using that dyno, don't expect those numbers.
The 18k is a fine turbo, but it's not going to hit 400whp on 91 octane on many dynos.
Instead of chasing numbers, find a good tuner with experience in our platform and talk to them about it. There's a lot more to it than whp.

If it was a random shop, I would say to be weary of dyno numbers, but its English racing, and they don't have a high reading dyno.

Only downside is the cost but if you can stomach the extra coin it is a better option then the MHI imo.
