I'd pay it. You'll pay that in mods and violate your drive train warranty.

True.

I wouldn't pay $40k+ for an EVO so my only hope is that Mitsu will go back and fix the weight/power.

I'd pay for multiple reasons.
- No immediate warranty violation necessary.
- Great track suspension (technology).
- OUTSTANDING R&D in the Mod Community
- Cheap parts compared to euro

For me - when it comes to spending $40k+, I'm going to try my best to get a good deal on a Corvette. Totally different car, but I like it and it's 3200lbs/handles wonderfully/runs low 12 second 1/4-mile/100,000 mile warranty.

I think Mitsubishi forgot why evo owners buy evo's....... They are probably looking at a platform that appeals more to the earl generation of evo owners that are now older. These owners, much like myself are 30 somethings, looking for something a little more comfortable than the IX. Ultimately, I think they are missing their target. Sure the car will sell, but I don't think it's what any of us were expecting.

Everyone defending the EVO as a rally car has to remember they are trying to sell these to 'us' , the people who drive our cars on paved roads 99% of the time (except some of you who may live way out in the country).

I will speak with my dollars and not buy one. I will keep my eyes on the forums but I went from:

"Omg I can't wait for this thing!!!!!" and almost going down to my dealer to pre-order (hell i would have, if they woulda given me a true price of what the end cost would be... we are still waiting for that)

to

"I probably won't buy one but I will watch the site for a miracle or perhaps some crazy mod/chip that can add 50-100hp without violating the warrenty"

or in the event they charge much less than we are all expecting... like $30k starting for a GSR then i might be back in the game.

If this car was badged Galant VR-4 it'd be an instant classic, and nobody would or should have anything bad to say about it. But calling it an Evolution means it has big shoes to fill and people have different expectations and it looks like it is disappointing already. Fans expected dramatic improvements where there are none, and are getting improvements where they don't want them.

Who ordered the leather, nav, climate control, more passenger room, more sound deadening and longer wheelbase??? I wanted it to be the hands-down faster car on ANY track, and definitely faster in the 1/4 mile. What'd we get? "Well if the track has long straights and lots of low speed corners then you will forget that the X is an overweight pig and can only outperform its predecessor with the addition of AYC. Otherwise, the IX is still the superior car. Oh and by the way, its half a second slower and traps 5mph less through the 1/4 mile than the outgoing car, but hey it's got navi."

This was not the case with Mustang iterations, Miatas, the Z-cars, Porsches or any other sporty car I can think of. Which is why they are all going strong and Mitsu's golden child is going to be taken out back and put down after they can't sell it based on name alone in a few years. Yes it will most likely be a smart financial and marketing move on Mitsu's part for now, and it will probably sell well, but they sure as hell aren't making the Evo like they used to. The saddest part is it doesn't even seem like they care.

keep crying and whining all the haters, maybe by the time X hits the dealer lots, all of the numbers including price, weight, and speed will be more palatable.

OK, all repeat after me, " X sucks, X is too slow, X is ugly, X is too heavy, X is too expensive, I will never buy the X."
