Newest Motor Trend: 2008 EVO X GSR vs. 2008 STI
Finally a test with a post production EVO X. Very good test, also includes a trip to the dyno for both vehicles (both somewhat disappointing in my opinion). I'll just cut to the performance test results-
2008 EVO X GSR-
0-60- 5.2 Seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.8 Seconds
1/4 Mile Trap Speed- 99.3mph
Lateral Acceleration- .99g
60-0 Braking- 111FT
1.04 mile road course- 57.6 Seconds
2008 STI-
0-60- 4.7 Seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.4 Seconds
1/4 Mile Trap Speed- 100.4mph
Lateral Acceleration- .94g
60-0 Braking- 106FT
1.04 mile road course- 58.6 Seconds
Motor Trend Pick- 2008 EVO X GSR

People have been saying the new Dunlops on the STI felt kinda week compared to the RE070's. Judging from that lateral G number, it would appear that assessment is correct. What tires is the Evo shipping with this year? Those look sticky .

Also another interesting note from the article, they tested a pre-production 2008 EVO X MR. Just like the previous article involving a pre-production EVO X GSR the MR suffered from high rpm hesitation, yet was still quicker than the 2008 STI and only .6 seconds off the healthy production EVO X GSR. I am thinking a healthy 2008 EVO X MR may click off a 57.0 or 57.1 second lap time.

"The big surprise is on the skidpad; while the STI shucks and jives to a 0.94 g, the Evo stings it with a 0.99 g. Credit the Active Yaw Control torque-vectoring element of the Evo's slick S-AWC system, because it can't be the shoes; these two wear the same size wheels (18 x 8.5) and tires (245/45R18) with similarly sticky compounds." (Motor Trend)
Also isn't the 2008 STI lateral Gs actually better than a 07 STI lateral Gs??? So I wouldn't really call the new STI shoes that weak in comparison to the previous generation STIs.

And this test goes to all the 0-60 drag racing fan boys out there showing that 0-60 time is not the only thing that matters in an all-around performance car. STI has a 0.5 sec advantage in 0-60 and yet Evo is a better track car mostly due to it's S-AWC.

The Evo has custom designed 245 width tires... Put those on an IX and see what it can do around a track! 13.9@99 is REALLY slow. Based on that result and the apparently smaller turbo, I think people may have a tough time getting the car into the 12s on pump gas using the standard mods.

So, for all the Evo X fanboys who cried "foul" when the first Motor Trend review came out, now there is a "real" test and this healthy X is only .2 seconds faster 0-60 and .1 seconds faster 1/4 mile than the "wheezing" X. The first test stated that the "wheezing" of the engine would account for only .1-.2 seconds in the accelerations times. And, it turns out they were dead on. 5.2 and 13.9 @ 99.3mph is not impressive. I guess that's perfectly acceptable for the "soccer moms" that will be interested in the Evo X (did you guys read that article yet?).
Also, for all the Evo X fanboys who kept dreaming the car would be underrated and would magically hit showrooms with more power...well, sorry but I hate to tell you that Santa Clause isn't real either...

lol so the Evo is on par or possibly slightly slower than Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky Redline... hillarious. Although those cars get like 30mpg as well and cost $30k
What I don't get in the article is that the STI pretty much wallop'd the Evo in everything but steering.
In 'real world' driving around town STI's are going to be smoking Evo's it appears. You will NEVER get a full 1 mile twisty course race against someone in real life. It's all going to be the never ending battle at the stop light or a quick pass and chase on a freeway. In neither case will you need even more than .6 or .7g skidpad, let along .9whatever.
Looks like STI will win IRL unless you are at a really curvey track. I don't even like STI's btw.
This is just more bad news imo.
