Current owners of the Evo X can you please give us the pro's and cons of the new Evo and if you previously owned an Evo VIII or IX can you compare it? Thank you

So I went to the dealer on Sunday to pick up a IV. I drove it, and it was basically a "race car" for the street. Interior finish was very plain, suspension was pretty stiff, and the overall "feel" of the car was just that. I wasn't too impressed (partly because the gf would complety object to it's harsh ride). Turbo boost was noticble and getting on the highway was amazing.

I told the dealer I wasn't interested, and of course, they want you to walk out with a car, so I asked about the new EVO X they had just gotten in on Frida night and took one (they got 6!) for a spin.

First thing i noticed was the noise. It was very quite inside (my guess is a lot of dynomat on the floor). 2nd thing was the dash and steering wheel feel more refined - "grown up" and even slightly more, dare I say, "upscale" than the IX. The thrid thing was the ride - silky smooth compared to the iX. I wanted to see how the S-AWC / ASC worked, so i took a 90 degree turn intentially too fast, and sure enough, there was no understear at all, not even overstear, the power was abruptly cut to the inside wheel which was very noticeable, and i don't know if it will be useful on the track... which I will find out eventually.

I now have ~280 miles on the X, and it's getting better with every mile. I've had several chances to try and get the ASC/ S-AWC to kick in, and suprisingly, if you know what you are doing, the car doesn't adjust anything, however the moment you add too much steering input, the car adjusts and gives you a pleasant "yellow" screen with some funny graphic to let you know you are "skidding" (i find it funny, as if I were really loosing control, I wouldn't need the computer LCD to tell me hehe). Speaking of steering, it's amazing, 2.2 turns lock to lock or something? That translates to a 1/4 inch turn of the wheel will send the car into the other lane - it's awesome. The responsiveness of the chassis is amazing as well, it's like you want to go somewhere, and there is no holding back. Body roll "seems" minimal, although i'm sure that's due to the great seats...

Power - no comment - still in break in. Although 2nd gear pulls really well from 3k to 4k.
Brakes - no comment, I haven't slammed them or used them, but heck brembo 4 piston brakes in the front, doesn't that come on porsches ???

Overal, I'm really impressed, however, the only thing even remotely close to the X that I have driven was my friends 02 wrx, and a RX8. Surprisingly, the chassis in the X felt quite quite like the RX8 in terms of responsiveness to steering input and ability to GO.

Driving this car pseudo fast is oh so effortless...
I just can't wait to mash the throttle and bring the motor to 7k - woah.

I picked up an red Evo X yesterday. Got 200 miles on it so far. Impressions:

1) Acceleration is close to that of a stock IX. Still feels a tick slower in a straight line.
2) Wet weather stability and cornering speed is incredible. Way faster through any kind of low friction corner than the Gallardo or 996tt. It's been raining for the last couple of days so no dry weather driving yet. But it is promising.
3) S-AYC settings really make a difference. Gravel feels different than Tarmac feels different from Snow. Very cool.
4) Engine feels soft below 3000rpm. More so than the IX. I suspect this is from the extra weight it is pulling around.
5) Much more comfortable than the IX. Less NVH. Less road noise. Virtually no creaks or chassis moans even when bouncing over the worse road conditions. Very impressive.

That's it for now. More driving comes!

Cheers,
shiv

That is the reason I bought the EVO in the first place. I'll miss just that in the X when I eventually get it.

The EVO VIII/IX was the only car that I was happy with in stock form, I did not have to waste money on changing out the suspension, tires, pads and other basic stuff to make it feel the way I like it....

Also Shiv, could you tell us how it compares to the stock 335i in terms of ride, interior, and power delivery? I am sorry to ask it guys, but I know that it's on a lot of our minds. I want to know if it is in fact closer to a BMW and if it appeals to the more upscale customer... and I want to know from a guy like Shiv and not from a auto journalist. Shiv has been my only tuner of choice for my cars and would continue to be if I went the BMW route again.

By the way, I sold my v400 Evo IX a while back and I'm torn between a Evo X or a 335i... or even an E39 M5 (which would put a tuner right out of the picture ) Let us know Mr. Pathek!

Why are you straight lining this car already with only 200 miles on it? Esp with break in oil in the car. I'm not so sure you want to be doing that with only a 36k mile warranty. Also I'm not so sure any 4 cylinder feels very strong below 3k/rpm...that's a tall task for a small motor, esp one that gets peak torque at high rpm. If you want low end torque get a muscle car... there's no replacement 4 displacement as my boy diesel once said. Overall your review has me feeling good about my choice, esp the part about road noise and overall feel for the car.

Thanks

You have no idea who Shiv is do you. Go check out www.vishnutuning.com (he is the owner and tuner). I don't think that he cares about a 36k warranty.
