Actually, the VIII & IX's are the best bang for the buck and always will be. It's not the best car by far, but for the dollar it get's no better IMO.

I think the VIII was the best bang for the buck. You could get it under 30k, it held its value amazingly well, and was easier, overall, to work on. The IX though has the allure of a better top end out of the box, and bigger turbo etc, but also cost a lot more.

Also, they need at least 30whp more than the VIII/IX in order to match their quarter-mile times due to weight.

Coupled with unknown shifting, traction, etc.. can lead to what?? Who knows??
30whp? that is an under statement bro. You figure that the Evo X are pulling 300lbs more, I don't think 30whp would even cut it..

Not at all. The difference was around $500.

amatuer times, not shop times are exactly what im interested in.

I have no interest in buying an X, but I do find it odd that no ones hitting the track yet.

I dont blame them, we know its likely to post inferior times in the hands of joe blow than the IX, so why would they go stock. Itd be nice to see, but its basically setting them up to catch hell from the haters.

The thing that bugs me is its still nice cool winter air for the most part everywhere, and these 98-100 traps in 50s-60s air, is very depressing.

All the mentions of the square bore/stroke allowing for better performance is also making me go wtf.. smaller comp in the turbo is going to run out of air sooner.

The only thing going for the X at this point is the better stock fuel (pump & injectors) & a mivec exhaust cam - in terms of basic bolton performance , and it just doesnt seem to justify the increased weight, smaller stock turbo comp side, and the *****y gear speed limit of 4th gear.

Will be interesting to see, but I wish people would just post up even if the times are "dissappointing".

when you say track, are you referring to a road course or the quartermile? thought the evo shines on a road course and it happens to do pretty well on the quarter.

if the quarter is all you care about, perhaps you should be driving a domestic?

The most overused comment that comes up whenever you start talking about something other than cornering.

A metric **** ton -im not going to throw out some completely non factual statistic- of evo owners will never autox their car, they will never take it to a road course, they wont push the car to its handling limits daily.

A large quantity of them want a car that handles well, and do enjoy its handling often and the confidence it inspires that you could go carve up those turns if you really wanted to.

A lot of people like it because its a niche car they enjoy and it does have great traction making it a awesome daily for redlight to redlight power.

Trap speed is a great indication of cars potential for a quick 20-60 burst on a main road, and thats what im curious about and would like to see some results.

After making some friendly pulls with an 03 VIII I think that 13.4-13.5 will be very good times in a GSR and the MR will be very high 13s.
