Question about stepper motor boost gauge, DEFI and STRI
Anyone using STRI DSD-SLM II ( Gauges? These are stepper motor driven gauges. I just installed a boost gauge and I notice some tickling on the gauge movement, specialty when the car is idle and the vacuum reads about 18in Hg. The tickling is not noticeable during boost or any other big movement of the needle. I can detect it just when the needle is almost steady and a very small movement is required to make the reading. I know that is the way stepper motors work but it also depends on the needle gearing. Is this normal? Do DEFI Boost gauge does the same thing?

I think it is normal as i use to have the boost gauge and oil temp as well. Think the gearing aint as smooth as that of Defi or Apexi. Just a soft tinking sound everytime there is a small adjustment.

The more accurate the motor, and therefor gauge(depending on transmitters), unfortunately the louder the stepper is likely to be. The more samples per second the gauge takes does not only equal more movement per a given time, but also a quicker momentum for that given needle(and associated gearing system) needed to maintain that given speed. You could have a bad gauge, I have the Defi's and they tick, but slightly, the sound of the air conditioning nuffkes them out, but either way, your going to hear something.

Jameson,
I cannot hear the sound when the car is miving due to other noises. When I say tickling I mean more the movement of the needle is like a clock seconds hand (not really as bad as a clock, the clock is just an example of the ticling in the movement). It is only noticeable at idle when the needle is moving just a lil. Do DEFI does the same thing?
