Been noticing something in mine the last 1000 miles (i have 9700).

I wouldnt call it a rattle..its more like the sound of hard plastics rubbing each other over bumps. Very annoying and totally predictable when going over bumps and rough roads.

The noise is most likely eminating from the shifter.

Try this, At freeway speeds when the nose is obvious, grag the shifter and move it either towards you or away from you and the noise should go away.

The fix? Well, I haven't gotten that far. I'll have to remove the center console and try to trace it down.

It's so annoying!

I think its the other things in the trunk that rattle and not the trunk itself.

Today I just noticed that when crusing on 5th gear that rattling noise was coming from my shifter too. When i move the shifter away from me towards the passenger side it goes away, but as soon as i let go of the shifter and sits back into position it rattles again. I believe it's some kind of plastic sitting next to a shift cable that's causing the rattling. I'm going to have to rip my center console apart and drive the car to see what's vibrating.

Also and this guy found out it was a plastic clip gone loose on the ACD line.

I have a rattle that seems to be coming from inside the dash behind the radio or so. Pressing on the dash does nothing so it is something inside. It gets worse as the temperature outside gets colder. It must be just a fitment issue. I will try and track it down when I replace the stereo, but that is a few months away. For now I just listen to a little music and try not to think about it.

I have a rattle behind the instrument panel somewhere. If i press back on the lip that sticks out to shade the gauges it stops.

also a rattle from my driver side A-pillar hitting against the dash during bumps.

Try wacking the dash when it rattles.

It's strangely satisfying.

I have the same thing coming from behind my instrument cluster. I haven't tried pushing on anything yet. If it gets any worse I will be insulating some dash mounting points.

Yep, cars rattle. When I first got my X last month, every little thing that wasn't perfect was driving me up the wall especially the little plasticky rattle sounds. The pillar noise has been fixed by putting some foam insulation strips between the windshield and the plastic pillar cover. The instrument panel/ inside dash rattle has been found to attributed to the airbag cover behind the steering wheel. It rattles when the tilt is set low. The stereo in my SSS will drown out any nitpicky little sound anyway.

I took a drive in someone's 1 year old VW Beetle and I have nothing to complain about as far as rattles go. I've had many cars through the years and there's always something. Rattles, squeeks, noise, vibration and harshness. Try Googling "car rattles" sometime.
It drives the BMW and Merc guys up the wall.
