Not impressed Evo X experience

i'm pretty sure the people that decide to buy the evo's and even the new evo x's aren't really looking for the nice interior pieces and shiny accents, or the nice interior lights, etc.
in my opinion 35k justifies the price because the evo x was built with all the handling, awd, hightech stuff in it...so you paid 35k for the performance, not the luxury.

BTW the Evo X's ARE slow before being broken in and if they have the original ECU flash. Now I understand why some performance numbers are 13.9 @ 98 versus 13.6 @ 101-102, the lastest ECU flash makes the car pull much better especially at higher RPM's. Now it's no full tune that would net 60+ HP at the crank but if I had to put a number on it I would say 15-20 HP through the mid to upper rev range is what it feels like.
As for trading in your old Evo IX, no dealership is going to give you more than "trade in value" for your car, since they aren't going to risk losing money if it doesn't sell right away. I love when people say the Evo 8's and 9's are so much faster stock for stock but 13.2 @ 105 isn't THAT much faster and once you get the ECU retuned out of it's super conservative rich mode it completely wakes up the car. I bet an Evo 9 and an Evo X with only an ECU tune would be very close in performance despite the 300lbs heavier weight. I used to have an Evo 8 and was able to compare them stock vs stock on a weekend before returning the Evo 8 to the dealership. Once the aftermarket bolt ons go back on I have no doubt it will just fine as an Evo.

I think the main difference people don't realize is the torque burst on the CT9A 16g's. It goes from nothing to everything and slams you back in a matter of a few hundred rpms. The X does not have this feeling due to the more linear curves. The X makes more torque and more hp. I know weight offsets that, but 1/4 times and 0-60 times are very very similar from IX to X. The IX usually is ahead by a few tenths.
I disagree with the OP. I went from a 350 whp VIII to my X and didn't blink an eye. Sure I miss that crazy rush of my VIII, but the X is still a quick car.

Wow I am surprised with all the bickering between pre X Evo owners and X owners. It's natural for owners that are smitten with the last gen cars to resent the new ones but it's inevitable that the EVO X will eventually be the main focus of tuner shops over the IX's and VIII's as it's just the nature of the business. Plus Mitsubishi has had almost two decades to tweak & perfect the 4G63 while the 4B11 is all new. Considering the 4G63 started out at 195 HP you can expect that the 4B11 in years to come will far surpass the 4G63 in stock form.

I work at Carmax and appraised my friends 06 GG 9 MR that is perfect but has 55k miles for 16,000$. No dealer will give you 29k$ for your car.
Apparently Evo 9 MRs sell wholesale at places like Manheim for as low as 17,000$ with 34K or less miles.
Is 22-23k trade in out of line? No.
When I drove an evo X months ago I said the same thing: my M3 NA was faster (2800#, 3.64 rear gear), it handled a ton better, and it stopped a ton better. That is not even showing how a older M3 compares in quality to a new Evo. However, after thinking about it for 6 months, I want to buy a new evo X and I am perfectly fine with the power potential with people running 10s here with modded stock turbos
