Unable to fill gas tank..

Never had this issue on my X however my 99 cougar had the same side effects, I actually couldn't park down hill at a gas station, if I did I couldn't fill the tank at all, it would always force the pump off until the car was moved.

wow, how many more issues are we gonna get with the X? Not doggin on it, cuz I'm getting one soon, but how many issues like this and others have happened on the other EVOs? I'm just wondering, again, not bashing on the X and trying to glorify the VII and IX.

As for this problem, my guess is that the filler neck has a bend in it too close to the end of the gas nozzle, causing splashback and causing the suction mechanism to shut off the pump. Pumping slower and pulling the nozzle halfway out should help.

Dont know if this might the same issue, but here is what happened to me:
I had the same issue as soon as we took the car from the dealership...When I was about to drive it off of the dealership I noticed that the gauge only read a little past half a tank. The guys at the dealer said that they would fill it up anytime I wanted to come back, so I didn't make too much of it. But when time came to do the first fill up, the damn thing stopped at the exact same spot on as when I had picked it up from the dealer. At first I thought it might be something wrong with the fuel pump, so I pumped some more gas and it overfilled and I had gas all overe my rear fender...damn I wanted to take my shirt off and wipe it all off...lol. Anyway, in the end I ended up having to take my car back to the dealership. Left it there for one full day so that it could be serviced, came back the next, picked it up and never had the issue again. The guy at the service dept mentioned that it was a problem with the cluster/gauge itself but i dont really know how accurate that was...lol.

Skold might be right about the evap canister (but he shouldn't have left KMFDM). Try keeping the ignition switch to the on position (without keeping your car running) and see if that helps.

How about the one way check valve on the breather side of the filler tube located under the wheel well? I'm having the same problem and something is not letting the fumes out fast enough. Any thoughts before I start digging in?

I m having this issue with my brand new X.. I've refilled it twice now at 2 different stations and the pump constantly shuts off before the tank is full. I tried pulling the nozzle half way out, but that made no difference.. This car only has 700 miles now and im guessing im gonna have to call the dealer...
