lol, maybe you should spend less to get a more reliable car, not more. I have an 02 mirage DE coupe, I paid $6,88 for it tax , title and all when it had 17k miles on it. I now have over 60k on it and have run it to death. Not one problem so far and it is the best shifting car I ever had. Its like an insta shift :]. They should fix it though.
Tell them to put some LOCKTIGHT Blue Removable No. 242, 243, 246, 248, 2432 OR 2440 - Used for things you may want to unscrew with minimal hassle. It cures into a brittle, glassy bond that takes one good twist to break, but removes cleanly after that. Recommended for use with valve covers, water pumps and oil pan bolts.
If they put that on there it should stay, be carefull and don't get the higher strengths not listed it takes a torch to break those lose.
For thr stripped threads they can be rethreaded, but since this is a new car I would make them give you a new one and put locktight on the threads.

I'm pretty sure ALL of us here can think of better ways to screw the cover onto the bar..
