The cars are the same. California cars have to run on 91 octane so tuning performance is limited in that respect.

only thing is that they come w/different catalytic converters due to more restrictive emissions, so if/when the it's time to replace the catalytic converter you'll have to remember that you bought your car in Cali (since they are diff than in other states & more expensive).

I don't think that is the case, because my dealer shipped a car from another state, and they never talked about changing the cats or anything. The manufacturer makes them all compliant with CARB to make it more simple.

Dam these emissions laws, makes me want to move up to Oregon. They don't have smog checks in some parts of the state, and no retail taxes.

^ I'm basing my statement off of what my parents recently had to go through. We moved from Cali a few years ago (to Idaho). They recently had they catalytic converter go bad in their Honda & the local Goodyear mechanics & dealer replaced it, but it still didn't work. They eventually traced it back to the fact the we bought it in California, where they used a different cat... the honda is a few years old though.

Most cars now come with what the manufacturers call "50 state emissions" equipment. In the past different cars were made for California, but I don't think any marque is still doing that.
