dealers try to sell payments not price. 1st thing they ask you is how much u want ur payment to b? when u give them an amt, they got you. since price determines payment, you'd b a fool to not negotiate a price prior to mentioning down pymt.

the 6options i mentioned earlier may or may not work for you, but its all worth a shot + what slvrr is stating as well so u don't get shafted

yeah i realized they always ask what I'm looking to pay monthly. So when they ask that should I say, "lets talk price first?"

yes discuss price because if you have your own financing lined up a monthly payment doesn't mean anything coming from them. they are not arranging the financing. as far as using the 10k for your first payment that isn't the way to go either it would go to principle anyway you might as well reap the benefits of lowering your payments. But you can use the 10k as leverage them if you DO use their financing you can sometimes use that to get a better rate. in auto financing the less you borrow the better for some banks and you can get a discount on rate the closer you are to 80% loan to value.

Most people forget that, to determine a price first. Then you can figure out your monthly quite easy.

another hint. figure $20 for every $1k financed. this is the median credit rating so if its less in ur case u have just alotted for paying extra every month.

the goal is to stay as debt free as possible but if u have to finance, get it paid off as soon as possible. then ur not sick & tired of it after paying on it for 5yrs & u can actually ENJOY it...

I went from a F150 to the Evo X and my rate only went up about $225 a year so 112.50/6 months with nationwide.

I have no idea why. My '93 MR2 Turbo costs me $440/6 months and the 2008 M3 would cost me an additional $815/6 months. The Evo X would cost me $1,246/6 months. That's an additional $400+/6 months or $800+/year.

The quotes had the same coverages for all 3 cars. BTW, I have 2 tickets (1 speeding, 1 crossing a double white line) on my record and I'm 32 years old. I also only got quotes from Geico so I'm not sure if other insurance companies would be cheaper.

I actually ordered the M3 DCT but after someone mentioned how the tail lights on the sedan look like a Corolla I couldn't get it out of my head and cancelled my order. Now I'm trying to decide between an Exige S 240 and the Evo X. I'm heavily leaning toward the Evo for all the practical reasons (sedan, almost half the cost, AWD for WA weather, TC-SST for traffic, etc.) but am still not sure if I want a car payment in this economy. The more I read about the MR the more I'm willing to have some debt though!

Most likely they will be cheaper than Geico. I quoted Geico for my cars before I bought the Evo. The quote from Geico was the highest, by a factor of two.

Geico wanted $1300 for 6 months for a 2004 GTO, 2007 Mazda 5, and a 2001 Nissan Frontier. Allstate and State Farm both quoted about $1000/year. Progressive was about the same price as Geico. I went with Amica for $1100 per year mostly mostly beacuse I didn't want to buy insurance from Allstate or State Farm given those two companies screwed lots of my friends in 2004/2005 when several hurricanes hit Florida.

Now with Amica I pay about $1060 every year for the Evo, Mazda5, and Frontier. Full coverage on all three vehicles. Male, 36, no tickets, married.

Geico advertises the most, and from what I've seen, they are also the most expensive.

well im 22 and i pay 175 insurance! what you need to do is just to put down 3k because it will not make a difference if your put 10k! Car dealers are cheaters and will do anything just to sell, just dont get to excited when u see the car because they are good at lying, and i gave 5k by the way and my credit score was like 690 or 700 i pay 600$ its alot for a car but i liked it plus it was a new evo 2006 IX

If you don't mind me asking, what are your coverages? Mine are:

Liability: $100K/$300K & $100K (property damage)
Comp / Collision Deductible: $500
Uninsured / Underinsured: $100K/$300K & $100K (property damage)

i pay $189/month insured as a recreational vehicle on the evo thru Geico. Geico considers the EVO a "high risk" vehicle (turbocharged, rare, goes over 150mph) so the rates are higher usually + i have $100/500k/100k coverage...
