shipping an X?

so trying to get an X.. and since the cali dealers sell them at about 8k lower than they are here, prob going to get the car from cali.. but i've never shipped a car before so i jus want some ppl to tell me how much it'd cost to ship a car from cali to omaha,nebraska(68107) or if anyone has shipped a car and tell me what they paid and their experiences good and bad.. thanks!

yeah around there... I am trying to buy one from the CA dealership too and i live in Vancouver WA. that's roughly about 16 hours drive from here. The shipping quote i got was about 1k... wtf? Maybe i will just drive down there and drive back. I need to trade in my 2008 subaru legacy gt spec b anyway.

it's usually cheaper for them to ship West to East or East to West since more cars are shipped to those directions more than it is shipped from North to South or South to North.

I think the standard fare cross country is 850-1K. the dealership will let you know - esp the cali ones since they ship the cars everywhere....even with that it's still a lot cheaper than the prices that most dealerships are charging.

so how do you go about doing this? do you work with a local dealer that has a sister dealer in cali? I'm in the chicago land area, just started looking....

I paid $30,589 for my no option GSR EvoX from South Coast Mitsubishi. Last time I looked they were several hundred dollars cheaper than what I paid.

Shipping from Los Angeles area to North Carolina was $775. Would have been $515-ish but I bought the extra insurance. Dependable Auto Shippers was the company.

is this something the dealerships are familiar with? could the dealership coordinate something for me? i've never heard this, this sounds too good to be true.

i did a quick search on cars.com and there IS a huge difference between chicago and cali prices....

looks like our dealerships haven't caught up to the "recession" info yet, maybe they didn't get that memo. Whilst they try to maximize profit, others try to maximize sales and dealer ratings.

evostang,

i would assume that $31k you paid was not out the door. so you are looking at adding another $3k for taxes and whatnot so a total of $34k for a no option evo X.

i looked into this as well but the cons of buying out of state out weighed the pros to it.

john83, let me know if you are ready to buy one. i can tell you right now that there are dealerships in illinois that you can get a good deal without having to resort to buying out of state.

there was a similar thread that was created about 3 weeks ago. from what i have seen i only paid about $500 more than what cali evo x buyers paid for theirs.

good luck guys.

john,

definitely shop around. this was my first new and turbo car as well. with an 8k difference thats a no brainer. go to cali but if the difference is not more than 1k just buy it here. a hell of a lot easier to have the car serviced too. the dealership i bought it from is only miles away from my house.

hmm, 07 sti?

i have a phantom black, would love to meet your friends so we can hang out. i live on douglas road.
