You really know what you talking here!! If they are not, I don't think the engine will last thru the start up.

I'd go for the 135i. As much as I am partial to EVOs, the 135i is bad ***.

well let them buy the 135i . And we can watch them our side mirror on the track untill they vanish...
then wave hello, when you drive by the BMW dealership when they do some usual minor fix..

In case you didn't know, the 135i chassis is a modified version of the last generation 3 series(E46). If you are considering a BMW, I think you're better off with the 3 series.

I am in the same boat. Evo9girl now wants either a 135i or the EvoX, so far acceleration numbers on the EvoX couldn't really be more dissapointing, just about everyone on this board was hoping for at least a very low 13sec and no less than a 105mph car.

The 135i on the other hand is putting the standards very high. There is a chance that it might have the 6piston calipers front brakes and there is also a chnace that they might offer a factory optional LSD.

Prices on aftermarket parts for BMW are dropping rapidly, cat- backs can now be found for $995(I just order one). I know you might say, I can find an average cat back for the Evo for less but the BMW actually has 2 cat backs so for $995 shipped it is not that bad.

Power wise the competition among BMW tuners is bringing the prices down. Tuners are making more power by the day and the prices are droping fast. 3000 ways explained well.

My summary is that unless the Evo X puts some serious convincing performance numbers within months within being release and post release then I would recommend the BMW 135i hands down. Either way drive both and do your own assesment. I do know that this is a Evo forum and people love their Evos but there is no way you can't ignore the serious car competition BMW just pulled on Subaru and Mitsubishi.

Before, the Evo use to be the fastest thing you can get for $30k, now you have to consider what the 135i puts into the table as well.

Some things you might want to know:

- 135i should marginally outperform the 335i base on weight(better braking, beter gas milegae, better acceleration)
- N54 is making huge power gain with simple bolt ons
- people are starting to trap great trap speeds with simple mods

Carlos

Well I've been a fan of the evo for awhile now regardless of whatever competition it has had. I use to watch WRC when it was aired in the states with Makinen racing and fell in love with the car in Gran turismo back in 95 (japan version which released almost 9 months in advance before the US)which not many knew about.

I admit the Evo X seems like a dissapointment from 0-60 times to 1/4 mile. Handling is still ridiculous even if the car does most of the work. Mitsubishi did a great job of giving us something different but effective. new technolgy and dual clutch. Wish I could get one.

Bottomline its like Football...Are you truly a fan of one team or do you like jumping the bandwagon like everyone else. Personally if I had the opportunity I'd go Evo all the way. But then again I am a true fan

Personally id go with the X.
135i isnt that impressive looking at all imo, it also performs considerably less in areas that count to me such as handling. the 135i can do great 3rd 4th 5th gear pulls, and thats fun, but still, having superior handling is fun as well, and safer. if youve ever seen the top gear video where jeremy clark mentions that the evo was virtually impossible to crash, and that was an VIII. The 135i's interior doesnt seem much more impressive that the X's at all. As for easy of modification, im sure our extremely talented companies will come up with brilliant ideas and designs, even if they have had forever to do so on the 4g63 i still would most definitely not doubt them.

if you want to look like a rich play boy that wears armani suits, get the 135i.
if you appreciate a performance package that can still haul kids and groceries and still woo any woman you take in it, get the X. personally i like the fact that people underestimate the evo's classiness, cause when they actually experience it they are quite surprised.

of course this is all very opinionated.

Wait until they are available, test dive them both and go from there. They both look like great cars.

If you are at all concerned about traction in the snow then the AWD option on the BMW is a must. I have a BMW 330i with RWD and it sucks in the snow, pretty much not drivable in slippery conditions.

If you are planning on any significant mods I think it's a tough decision. If you were going to leave it stock I'd say BMW all the way. BMW dealers treat BMW owners very well and all the maintenance is free for the first 50,000 miles.
