Rebate issues with SouthCoast Mitsubishi
Hey guys, I just wanted to know if any of you guys had issues regarding rebates and your MSO with SCM.
I purchased my car on 3/14 from them and their finance manager told me he would fill out the rebate forms and that I would receive them shortly. After 2 months had gone by I called SCM back to see where my rebates were and they kept asking for my information and saying that they would call me back. After 3-4 calls to the dealership and still no information on my rebate I called mitsubishi customer service and found out that my college grad rebate had gone to the wrong address, and that the finance manager applied my loyalty rebate to the deal (thus the rebate went to SCM yet they gave me no discount on the car).
In addition, when picking up my car I asked the guy who does the paperwork if I had everything I needed to register my car when I got back to hawaii and he assured me that the bill of sale was all the documentation they give out. Later I find that he failed to mention that I needed the MSO for me to get title to the car. I traded in my 05MR and paid cash for the difference so a that should not have been an issue.
I am a little frustrated with this dealership right now and truly hope these were honest mistakes. Has anyone else had experienced similar issues with dealing with SCM?

I also had significant issues with my South Coast purchase. I discussed them recently in this thread, so you might as well just read it there:

In my case, eventually Mitsubishi Corporate took care of me. I wouldn't count on Sam doing much of anything once the sale is complete (he wouldn't even call me back), and honestly, it's probably not his place to anyway. It's the finance dept.'s mess.

Actually, problems with Southcoast are pretty common. Some big things, some small things, but they've been happening for years and are documented all over this forum. Probably not many more problems than the typical dealership, but they do leave a lot of guys hanging out to dry in situations...especially guys who buy out of state. There are some horror stories of guys buying from out of state (like the OP in this instance) that made epic threads over the past few years.
OP, sounds like they're trying to screw you out of the two rebates. Do you have anything in writing stating that you were getting the two rebates as part of the deal? Hopefully you do, otherwise this could be really difficult to solve. Good luck.

They are a bunch of crooks. When they know they can get away with something they will screw the hell out of you. Here is my horror story.

They did not pay off my trade in for 6 weeks. I had to eat the late payment charges because it was too much of a pain in the *** to get anything out of them after they sold the car to me.
Buying was great. They gave me a hell of a deal. But you're right, they don't care after they sell you the car.

There aren't rebates on the X, they do have $500 owner loyalty, $500 military and some other rebates at least up here. They have to print out a form to claim the rebate and have you sign it when you sign out your car. Usually it is applied to the purchase and effectively lowers the sales price and you pay less sales tax. It's pretty rare to actually get a check back anymore. Either way the dealer downloads the forms and you sign them. If that was not done Mits won't pay them the money even if they showed it on your purchase order, or they will get charged back if they claimed it and get audited later. At some point they will get charged back. If it doesn't show up on your paper work call Mitsubishi and ask them why you didn't get the rebate.

just wanted to say i have had no dealing with south coast and just wanted to share my experiece with the rebates.
the loyalty and education rebates were deducted from the sale price. the military rebate, the finance department handled all paperwork and i got the check in about 3 weeks tops.
i guess this is why i still chose the closest dealership from where i live even though it was not the best price that i thought i could get. anything bad happens i can literally walk over and cuss them out.
sadly that is the reality of this business i guess, they will move high heavens to close out the deal but the truth is once they get you to sign the dotted line its man for himself.
as a buyer i am obviously siding with my peers, i hope you guys get a resolution in your favor.

<~~~issues with South Coast Mitsu
I bought my 05 Evo back in 2005 and had them ship it out to me in Maryland. They sent me an evo that had all these little rust spots ontop of the clear coat. I took it to a Mitsu dealer around here and fortunetly they clay barred it for me. I still have problems with the rust spots. I'm sure there will be persistent problems with the rust spots.
About the rebate. They tried to get me to do the "mail-in rebate". I told them to take it off the sale price or I'm not buying. After a few days, they got back to me and took it off the sale price.
I didn't feel I had a good experience buying from them. Was not comfortable, but I did get a Great deal on it.
