A story of the little evo that couldnt....

Funny that you brought up going up an incline in revese. Back in the day when my father got out of the Army and went into the Army National Guard here in Texas he quickly found out that at that time the Guard really got the second and third hand regular Army equipment. In this case they got the M48 Patton tanks instead of the M60's. He has told me that the M48's (early version with AV1790 gasoline engine) were so weak that they had to go up many an incline in reverse! And yes, this was the US main battle tank at one point in time.....
I personally have had to slip the poop out of the clutch when I had my VIII to start up some inclines. When I went with the 2.3 it really helped out the low end tq when off boost though.

Well there is the tradeoff, when gas is $7 a gallon Mitsubishi will be well ahead of the others with BMW and Audi trying to make 4 cylinder turbo cars that weigh 4000 lbs.
On the other hand, you CAN make a decent 4 cylinder if you don't care about the number of valves and smoothness. My RS will not idle up the hill in front of my house in 1st, but the Isuzu will do it in 2nd gear, and get 20 mpg on the highway too.

I went to a racetrack with a steep-*** gravel hill. All the parking rows were to the left and the guy in front of my kept starting and stopping as if a space was magically going to appear. meanwhile im behind him having to start and stop 10 times in 75 yards with 4 people in the X. I didn't stall, but it did smell of a little clutch burning and of a temper flaring at that guy. The X is mad weak trying to go up hills. Half the roads I go down and friends driveways are a pain if I have to stop first. (mountain region).

I have a friend with an VIII that has 280 cams on both sides with retarded cam gears for high rpm power in an otherwise stock internalled 2.0. That thing will barely climb up a 20 degree driveway, LOL.

Never do the clutch install at the dealer unless for someone unknown reason they do it for free. IF you shop around it costs about $500-600 to get it done in the northeast.

i've ridden with a buddy that had this happen, no biggie. Its a 2.0 turbo thats stagnant until 3K. I rock a mazdaspeed 3 now and thats got crazy torque...I normally start in 2nd with AC and 4 passengers. But it doesn't pull up top like an EVO

My clutch went and now i got an ACT clutch with is a lot better then stock.

this doesnt surprise me...
My 7 would do the same on steep hills where I'd come to a complete stop because of traffic or traffic lights etc..
For me to get moving again I'd have to give it some good revs and slip the clutch!
And I do mean slip the clutch....Held on to the clutch for a couple seconds
