it was common with all EVO's. EVO's + people that can't drive = blown clutches. i got 65k out of my stock clutch and i did plenty of racing, learning to launch, launching, drag races, and autocrosses. biggest mistake i ever made was going to an Exedy stage 1 instead of putting another stocker in

Why was going to the exedy a mistake, what was wrong with it/didn't you like?

I think exedy actually makes the oem clutch. Its pretty much a hot or miss with the oem clutch. Some last forever others die quick. It seems the X is following suite

Once your pushing more than factory number, the clutch isn't designed to handle that. Small gains won't affect the clutch that much but once you start gaining more like 100+ whp, it will take a toll on the stocker.

100% correct

If you're a street ricer (er, I mean racer) and want to race SRT-4 Neons at stoplights, sure...you're clutch is going to roast.

I put over 50k miles on my modified Evo 8 and my clutch still grabbed strong and hard.

the exedy stage 1 was a mistake because it sucks. it engages higher than the stocker (which kills me because it was already hard enough for me to come off the clutch because i'm 6'4" and have big feet), and i get high RPM lockout, and harsh engagement. problems i never had with the stocker

No one here has spoken of a blown clutch from their X. In fact from what I know there hasn't been one yet. Just one poster said his was worn. Do VIII and IX owners just enjoy fabricating things? Does it make you feel like your cars are still the best thing on the block? How childish some of you are... enjoy your alternate reality where your car is perfect.

wtf? While we're all tired of the Evo X bashing, I didn't notice any in this thread...

no. It is likely that the SST is another non-serviceable tranny.

Not trying to get too OT but I felt your pain and did regret every minute of purchasing that clutch.

Back on topic....I did notice that the stock X clutches engagement and pedal stiffness (not that it has anything to do necessarily with this topic) did feel much weaker than the stock engagement of an VIII or IX's clutch.
