Was bored at work today...
I got really bored today and started thinking about EVO (of course) and wondering why Mitsu would put such a crap stock tune on the car when my buddy who drives an STI walked in the room. Which then got me remember the specs for the new STI which is claiming to have almost 370hp. Could mitsu have thought of this in advanced, build the X for it and have a tune for the engine that will produce almost the same numbers and are gonna use it on the EVO's that release the same model year??

Correction, info came from a friend, the 2009 WRX is now 265 HP and a special version of the STI with 330 HP will be released in the UK, with a 380 HP version rumored...

If it does come here hopefully mitsu has something new up there sleeve to keep up with it.

Mitsubishi could easily put out a better version of this car for no cost to them.
I mean, im making ~350hp at the crank with nothing but a flash. Im sure you can expect a hotter version of this car in the future.

I'm not positive but i thought in the US there was a limit to the stock HP and engine could have based on its displacement. I was under the impression that was why the evos had sub 300 rating and the stis could have more... i'm no expert, but that is what i was told awhile back.

Mitsu won't give up any extra hp until they have to to be competitive with the competition. They could have come out with the evo making 330 hp or more, but the avg. fuel economy rating of their fleet sold in the US would go down and the warranty issues would probably cost more than it will now.

The class both the Evo and STi run in world rally is a 2.0 liter class. In Japan (maybe elsewhere..) the STi comes with a 2L. Here, they put in a 2.5L. The Evo is a 2L everywhere. As far as future models coming with upped power ratings.. Who cares? You can spend very little and have your car putting 330 TO THE GROUND, which makes it roughly 360-370 at the crank. If they come out here with a more powerful STi or Evo, it's damn-near guaranteed it'll cost a lot more than it does for you to do it on your own. Just look at the prices of the "FQ" models in the UK
