No it doesn't, at least not according to AMS or Buschur who both have WRX/STI shop cars that they say respond very well to mods, at least as good as evos maybe even better.
While yes the majority of the comparison is about handling, using the FQ360 has an effect on that as well (in the sense that more power will make it feel inherently different). It's also a matter of how you drive the car, unfortunately the STI is an understeering so and so from the factory and you really need to man-handle it to get the most out of it. I find it a bit unfair that the majority of the test is done with the FQ360 while the STI is just the stock version. I'm sure evo owners would be pissed if they did a shootout with the Litchfield Type-25 and a stock Evo GSR.
Here's the Litchfield just so you can see it. Sorta like the FQ albeit without Subaru's official backing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kUsMlFkLWQ.

And? In the Top Gear shootout the STI was the faster car around the track and in the Fifth Gear comparison the STI was fastest. It's no secret that the new STI isn't a track star straight from the factory, the stock suspension is soft and the stock tires aren't sticky enough. However, seeing as how people are arguing that a stock car isn't an issue, you could buy new tires and new sway bars and voila, you have a competitive track car. You'll also notice that the Cobalt SS is faster than the Evo.

Fine, wait for the Spec C to arrive or take one of the shop STIs (Cobb, AMS, Perrin, etc.) and use it in a comparison.

According to Road and Track, you're faster but not by much. I think from a roll it would be a real problem especially if they're modified like you are.

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/power-br...hp-370wtq.html

Just did a google search and this guy had to do a turbo swap, fuel pump, etc to get 359whp. Theres an Evo X that made 390whp stock turbo, albeit using cosworth cams.

The new SS is turbocharged not supercharged and is 260 HP vs 205 HP. It does a 14.0 second 1/4 mile vs a 13.6 for the Evo. It comes stock with launch control and flat-foot shifting. It's quite the bang for the buck like the now extinct SRT-4.

why don't you just go mod a subie forum and be done with it? Both mitsubishi and subaru have work to do in the next couple of years to get their flagship sports cars back to the high level of performance they once were. it'll be interesting to see if mitsu responds as well to the cries of it's fans as subaru did with the new WRX

Which is fine, some people like the boxer rumble, others don't and some people prefer the evo to the STI, again, personal preference. I just find it somewhat stupid that they used the FQ360 and compared it to a stock 300 HP STI. He might not have been so enamored with it if it had 60 less HP.
