Top Gear Evo X vs. 08 STI
#79
Well, let's take out the Evo in the equation. Let's say that Top Gear was just doing a specific review of the STI. Do you really think their opinion of the car would change that much?
Their points still stay valid, poop tires, soft suspension, more than questionable looks....what more is there to say....Subaru missed the mark on the new STI. Regaurdless of wether it was pitted up against a GSR or an FQ360.

I know that, I'm just saying from experience it seems that the STI is still the better daily driver although I still want an Evo X eventually (I think).
Don't forget that the STI also has the 6-speed transmission (bulletproof), the upgraded diffs, the DCCD, the bigger turbo stock, better suspension, better brakes, etc. It would cost more to make the WRX an STI than it would to just buy the damn STI.

From NASIOC.COM:
2008 WRX ... 2008 STI ... 2009 WRX
0-60: 5.7 ... 5.0 ... 5.1
0-100: 16.1 ... 14.1 ... 13.5
1/4 mile: 14.4 @ 94.7 ... 13.6 @ 98.2 ... 13.8 @ 101
60-0: 124 ft ... 119 ft ... 124 ft
Lateral acceleration: .83g ... .90g ... .87g
Fuel economy: 17.9 mpg ... 16.0 mpg ... 22.2 mpg
Max interior noise: 74 dBA ... 78 dBA ... 70 dBA
Looks pretty close on braking and handling. ( i know it is different tests on different days but still so close the money difference is hard to over look.

Different heads, intake manifold...
Also the about $10,000 in sheetmetal work to try and get the OEM widebody.
Also 3 differentials?
yadda yadda yadda.
I think the REAL clunker is Ralliart vs Evo MR this year haha
**** has the exact same longblock and tranny even.
Also your braking numbers seem off. Most of the mags (if were gonna magazine race) have the 08 STi at 98-105 ft.

Except that glass tranny which still can't handle more than 300whp/330wtorque if driven by the majority of normal people (there are freaks who drive like 400whp/400wtorque on the 5 speed, but 99% of people would agree its borrowed time)

Its faster here too...just not by the margin one would expect. I agree that the few mods that it would take to make the WRX faster would also make the STi faster also....but 7K difference the difference seems small....smaller then the Ralliart to MR at least.
