I DID pay CA sales tax but only because they made the mistake of registering the car in CA and not in Colorado like they were supposed to 
. But it works out because I paid 7.75% in tax instead of the 8.25 or 8.5% had I registered it in my county here in Colorado.
You're SUPPOSED TO pay sales tax to state/county where you register the car.
