Newbie Question Engine Idle

Hey everyone,

Im new here so if I sound like an idoit im sorry.

I just bought an 08 Evo MR a few weeks back and have been experiencing engine idle issues. My ecu has the most current flash from mitsu and they even did an ecu idle relearn. The dealer is telling me the idle is normal so I am hoping a few of you could confirm this.

When my car is in park or in gear my idle has slight variations in it from aprox 800 rpm to 600 rpm if I had to guess. The rpm needle moves up and down slightly and doesnt stay smooth at the same position. On my previous performance cars I have never had this but nor have I owned a turbo car. Is this something I should worry about and take it to another dealer or? I do not recall the idle being this way when I first got the car but I was so excited I may have missed it. Could anyone confirm the rpm needle does vary at stops. Could you tell me where your rpm needle sits at idle also?

Also does anyone else fuel pump making a humming noise?

Thanks in advance!!!

This is normal. Sometimes my car idles really high, sometimes really low, almost stalling. I have the 2nd dealer reflash and it doesn't seem to have done much to fix this. As for the fuel pump, I haven't noticed a hum in my car.

Thanks for the quick reply. As for the fuel pump you cant really hear it to much in the car but if you have the door open its a electrical humming noise it varies also when using power windows. the dealer also states this is normal.

I brought my car in about a week ago for some warranty and I told them about having idle issues (I have the previous reflash). It does the same thing as yours. The tech guy called Mitsu and essentially told me it's "normal" for our car. He's not reading any codes so he can't really do anything. He says Mitsu knows about it and they might come out with another reflash. Until then, they can't do anything.

sounds like mitsu has a few more bugs to work out on ecu a/f ratios at idle.

do you have any inside on the fuel pump noise? or is mine the only one that does this.

im thinking the fuel pump is normal after talking to one of my acura techs at work its a returnless system and after seeing a post of ams testing the pump it def looks like its a work horse aka high flow so that would probably explain the noise.
