So you bought a new FE for $33k?

Looked at the final edition to lease (please, please, please no hate) and with like $1k down it was $450 a month with tax included, and a regular GSR apparently it's $470 without tax with $1k down, does that even make sense? i don't have bad credit or anything, it's in the 700's

I'm assuming his insurance might be on the expensive side (age 24) even though he said he has no tickets or anything bad on his record, he works part time and lives with his parents so he doesn't have to worry about all other costs of living. Anyone been in this situation?
Sorta in the same situation. Let him know to negotiate the monthly payments as low as possible as well as the down payment, because the insurance will add up to just having the car. This is why I hate living in the NYC Metro area but he/you might live elsewhere.

Currently I pay $700/month just too keep the car on the road/curb with lease/insurance payments. Its an additional $300-400/month to drive it. Significantly less if you friend drives conservative/gas prices in your area are relatively better, but honestly who drive this beast conservatively?

It will definitely cost him near $1000/mo to enjoy this car, stock. This is not including any mods he will want to do to the car.

In my opinion, if you have to pay over $6000 per year in insurance for an Evo then you should not have an Evo.

I was at the dealership yesterday and they dont even want to negotiate off msrp. they just come back with some bs number in the mid $400's with tax to lease a gsr. Apparently they're losing money on every evo they sell

No.... msrp on mine is exactly $41,085. Subtract 5k off of that.

Very happy with the deal I got: New 2015 GSR with exterior and sound package sticker was 39088 and I got it for 33k out the door, 32,700.00 + doc fees. No tax in NH thank god. I'm seeing base models available for just under 32 now I wonder if people could pick those up for 30K or even like 29K maybe.

You still have your 2004 STi? Compare!

Well I don't want to go off topic here but I'm more than happy to compare. It's getting picked up Friday and going to a new home but I've still got it. I'd really like to compare it to an EVO from the same time period, because I just drove a 15 WRX and that car is more like the EVO X than it is to the old STi's. Unfortunately I haven't driven any older EVO's.

The new EVO is quiet, feels comfortable and heavy/insulated. The 04 STi feels 'thin', lighter, worlds more raw than the new EVO. The STi 6-speed is more bang, bang, bang than the 5-speed of the EVO X which has some longer 'wind it out' gearing if that makes any sense. The STi is stage 2 so it is faster for sure.

Aside from the obvious big differences in weight/inertia/insulation over 10+ years is what you get when the two cars are at the limit. I have G-Force Rivals on the STi so the rubber is better and the limit of grip is higher than the EVO. The interesting thing is what happens next: When you reach the limit of the STi, that's it. There's not much you can do other than try and overpower the front with the rear to try and get some rotation. IF you do get some rotation you better be prepared to wrestle a beast with vague steering feel. It's not fun, it's scary as ****.

The limit in the EVO really doesn't seem like so much a limit other than it's a threshold you can cross and explore a whole other world of (I hate to say it) drifting. After the initial under-steer, keep pushing and the front end just tucks right in and the car will rotate. The steering feel is good enough to play with the car a bit, instead of fighting for control and having poop come out in the STi. Like all the car reviews say the EVO is more fun, but I gotta say as well that the STi can delivery some crazy good adrenaline rushes if you don't plow it off the road first.

Oh the sound! STi all day for the sounds. EVO is powered by a vacuum cleaner.

I have been shopping for a new Evo... Up here in Portland, Oregon they only have Final Editions... I have been talking with a dealership up here for a month and they won't go any lower than 36,900 for the car not including taxes... I can ship one up from Cali but I think after shipping it will almost be a wash... So 36,900 for FE # 1553... Thoughts?

If you found one that's exactly what you want (color/options) I say go for it. Price seems fair enough

There's always the potential you can find one cheaper but with how much time/effort?

Seeing as how that is MSRP, no.

Shop around.
