WTF is wrong with my Evo?
Okay, I have had my April 2008 manfactured Evo X GSR for about 2 weeks. I have noticed that while getting on the highway, that the car will sometimes feel like I have shifted into neutral. It usually happens right at 5000 rpm and it just free revs. I let off the gas and slowly accelerate from there since I am not sure what the hell my car is doing.
Once I get to my destination it smells like burnt rubber in the engine bay towards the back of the engine block.
Has anyone experienced this and if so, do you know why? I plan to call the dealer tomorrow, but they are not exactly what I would call expert on Evos.
Thanks for any help.

I bought the car with 6 miles and granny shift it. Car has just over 600 miles.
The smell does remind me of burnt clutch from my old Evos when I would visit the track... but I have never had a clutch just slip. Car has never been launched, or tracked or shifted hard.

Yeah, it could be that. This doesn't happen all the time though. That is why I thought maybe it was something else.
Just to throw in, this is my fourth AWD turbo car. I have driven these cars for 5 years and I have gotten pretty good at driving them.

The Evo X's clutch does not hold up to expectations. Then again most, if not all, Lancer Evolutions are well known to have difficult and complicated drivetrains.
As others have mentioned before, check with a Mitsubishi dealer for warranty if possible. Otherwise, an aftermarket clutch should do the trick, preferable of "street-orientated" for reliability and durability. The OEM clutch is not recommended, though the exact cause of the clutch problem is hard to pin point.

I think that if it is a clutch and it is warrantied I will get an aftermarket clutch. I'll take recommendations, but I am pretty sure I'd get the ACT HDSS (had it in my VIII and my STI).
