Driving in snow/ice to get new tires
We just got about 3 inches of snow over the weekend here in the northwest. I need to get the Evo to the tire store to get snow tires installed it's about 2 miles away. Can i make it? There is about and inch of packed snow/ice on the streets. I'm currently sliding around the streets in my 93 240sx but there is no way i'm going to keep that up. Wanted to get everyones thoughts before i risk it in the Evo.

Not sure if you can make it, but in the worst case, you could remove your wheels from the EVO and leave it on jack stands while you take the wheels in your 240 to get new tires mounted. It will be a pain, but if you don't feel it's safe to drive your EVO, it's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

avoid major roads??? thats the dumbest thing i've heard. You'll be fine for a couple miles. Just take it easy. Major roads will be in the best condition so drive them if you can but don't be afraid to take it slow, who cares if you get honked at a couple times.
But in all seriousness the most importand thing to driving in the snow is you, the driver. Even the best snow tires can't magically defy the laws of physics and give your car super snow driving powers. My point is that if you have experience driving in the snow and are fine with taking it slow for a couple miles (which is hardly anything) then you'll be fine. Especially since you are smart enough to know that you are on bad tires for the snow.

if you have experience in the snow then just limp the car there. if you go slow and it is small local road and you can avoid any firm and even slightly firm braking or turning you could make it. even though most would disagree with me on that. if you're really worried take the old tires and wheels off and bring them to the store in your other car.
or order a new set of wheels with winter tires mounted from tire rack and put them on once they're delivered.
i've driven 68 miles on unplowed highways with at least 4 inches of snow on the ground in BFG g-force summers once. no problem. i did a reasonable (slow) speed and didn't turn the wheel or brake hard and i was fine. in fact i was watching regular grocery getters spin in front of me. the only problem i had was staying the hell away from other idiots on the road. i don't recommend it though.....it just isn't impossible.

If you have experience driving in ice/snow you will make it. One of my friends went skiing this past weekend in his 07 subaru sti, with the stock summer tires worn out to the cords (seriously) and made it there and back no problem in snow/ice.
I drove my 91gsx for two winters with Nitto summer tires. They sucked big time but I never got stuck or hit anything and drove it in snow as deep as 12".

It's only a couple of miles if you take it easy and keep distance between cars you'll be fine. You probably could've made it to the tire store in the time it took to post this thread.
