you dont have to fight anything. just plead not guilty - as long as you show up to court you'll get to meet w/ the cop and the DA and they always reduce it to something stupid that is a non moving violation. I've gotten tickets in about 5 different towns around here in the last 10 years and i've never actually had a speeding ticket written up as a speeding ticket in court. getting a lawyer is a joke and a waste of money. just be nice and cheerful and they drop it. if they don't you can just say you want to go to trial and they get all worked up and will work w/ you more...

also, you can call your insurance company to get more info. one day i was just curious and called USAA when i had them. they told me 5% increase for moving violations and 20% for accidents.

i would just pay the ticket and goto driving class to aviod the points. dunno how it is across the nation, but in Florida you're allowed 1 a year (something like that)
Not in his case. It wasnt like he was going 80 in a 25. So the judge is going to see that he went over just a bit. And will most likely reduce the fine..

Hehe.

I got a ticket as well. 87 in a 65.... Avg. speed of traffic is 80 or so on I-95.

that is my second ticket ever. My last ticket was in my EVO IX going the same speed. 2 years ago... It must be the damn big wing on this car that makes the cops look.

Insurance will only go up if you report the ticket to your insurance company. They don't usually check for tickets unless your renewal is coming up. Even at renewal time they don't check everyone so you could get lucky there as well.

I've had many tickets in my life time and my insurance has never gone up. I don't report the tickets either.

Same here... plus the cops try to mess with your mind by telling you your insurance will go up $2,000 after this ticket blah blah blah... bunch of crap. Just pay the clinic or deal with it in court. I've gotten 15mph over tickets completely dismissed by simple mistakes by the cops. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose maybe to help you out lol

Needless to say... this thread is from back in 2009 lol

pleading not guilt == fighting the ticket.

but i agree with this guy... when you fight it, you usually meet w/ the cop (if he shows up) right before the hearing. just tell him you're hoping to get the charges reduced to something that doesn't give you points (and raise your insurance).

cops usually will do this because they don't care if you do/don't get points... they just wanted the revenue generated from the ticket (to help fund their department). often times, you can ask the cop when you get pulled over (when he takes your license/reg)

this may be different per state. i know PA will report speeding tickets to insurance, but they won't report moving violations.

Best thing to do is when you get to court and you are sure you cant win, ask for differed judification. you basicly pay the fine and have to take drivers defensive course and are on probation for 3 months. If you clear the 3 months it wont go on your record, if you get another ticket within 3 months you get hit with both on your record. hope this helps.
