Whats Carmax paying?

Anyone take their EVO X to Carmax and traded/sold it or had it appraised for them to purchase? Mine is a 2008 GSR w/SSS, sport, wheels locks packages with 15k miles, curious to see what real world market trade is on the car and Carmax is usually spot on with that kind of thing.

NADA saying around $27-$28k
KBB - Not on there
Edmunds - is around $25 - $26k.

Thanks for the input.

based on the new car pricing I am seeing, I would say your car is worth about 22-23K

Not much!!! KBB said my car was worth 19-21k Carmax offered 16K and change. So, I'd say 22-24k.

Just another estimate, but from previous experience with carmax (different cars than the evo) I'd say they might offer you around 16-20k.

I actually took my car over to a dealership to see what I'd get for a trade in.
5k miles, every option GSR, they said they'd have to stretch to give me 30k.

Hold on !

i would say that if you wanted to trade your X/sss (msrp 36k) mitsubishi dealer would probably give you 22-27k for it, they sell them for 26-31k

It's simply too early to be trading in an X. Your best bet, if you have to get rid of it, is private party sale. The only time I've heard of trade-in/CarMax making sense is with slightly older (5+ year) cars. Even in that case, you're going to lose at least a few hundred $$$ in the deal.

Also, remember we're in a pretty bad recession worldwide. People, especially in the US, just aren't buying cars. So that's going to negatively effect your trade-in/sale values, too.

Best of luck deciding what to do. I sincerely hope you aren't in a financial bind, because it's just a bad time to sell a car (for anyone).

I used to work for Carmax and the are real picky when it comes to trade in values. They are good at what they do and there going to give you as little as possible for it. Just like they don't haggle price and they are normally more expensive then other dealerships. However their still the number one seller in the US. We were trained very well.

Im telling you right now if they were able to talk you in to selling them your X it would be on the lot in 3 days for at least 27-28k

I checked Carmax and they have only 2 Xs for sale one GSR w/SSS for roughly $30k and another one identical for their "Last Chance Reduced Price" for almost $28k.

When I was getting rid of my 04' Evo VIII in 2007 they told me they would give me wholesale/auction pricing. I ended up selling to a private party Carmax is in it to win it.
