Does anyone know how check a defective steering angle sensor?

Hi guys,

I need your help on this.

I recently remove my steering because i'm planning to replace the awc switch to audio controls. While i was pulling the steering wheel, i forgot to remove the black connector that is connected to the steering wheel angle sensor.

All the flex cables (long winded flex wire inside) tangled through when i accendentally pulled it togeter with the steering wheel. I tried to wind back the cables inside and try to lock them back to the black pack cover. but in doing that, i think i bent some of the flex cables. Then i put back the steering wheel again to check the driveablity of the car.

I don't know if im just being a paranoid but when i try to drive the car, it seems like everytime i move the steering left and right, the RPMs goes as high as 1.5k and stays there for a second or two then come back to idle. So I still drove it like that. then i stopped the car and start it again, the high idling when steering are gone. But i noticed that my steering wheel is some kind a bit loose and easy to turn unlike before. Before, i can drive without hands on the steering wheel at flat surfaces, but now its kinda sensitive on the steering.

Is there a way to check a defective angle sensor or to check whether the sensor is not in the center alignment? And if so does anybody know how to change it?

ok so if the sensor was damaged OR the cabling was screwey then SURELY you would be a ACD error - ie lights on the dash?

I am gathering that's not the case and you just want to verify the sensor is detecting the correct angle.... Probably easiest to take it to mitsubishi to check.

I am just looking in the manual now....

ok - there is a section in the manual for sensor angle calibration... just trying to get it out for you now...

edit - ok you can "Reset" the calibration... but you need the mitsubishi scantool todo it...

If you're talking about the clockspring the best you can do is replace it. It only cost like $60.00 bucks. I think once that piece come apart; you have to replace it. I would it do that if i was you

I doubt your scantool will do it.

If you ask evo4mad real nice he might be able to code it into evoscan for you
